This May, we’re celebrating two fantastic work anniversaries across the Optimal team: Calum Murphy at Optimal Med and Dominika Beza at Optimal Solicitors.

Work anniversaries are a chance to recognise the people who help make Optimal what it is – colleagues who bring dedication, care, and commitment to their work every day.

Calum has become a valued part of the Optimal Med team. From coordinating expert witness reports to chasing outstanding medical records and assisting with rehabilitation, he’s supported many solicitor firms with the smooth progression of personal injury cases.

His colleagues describe him as positive, proactive, always willing to help, and a fantastic addition to the team – and we couldn’t agree more.

We’re also celebrating Dominika’s nine-year anniversary with Optimal Solicitors. As our CICA Litigation Executive, Dominika supports survivors of assault through every stage of their compensation claims, helping to gather evidence, explain the process clearly, and keep cases moving with care and determination.

A qualified lawyer, Dominika also plays an important role in supporting our Polish-speaking clients. She works hard to make them feel understood, reassured, and confident throughout what can often be a difficult and emotional journey.

Calum and Dominika, thank you both for the hard work you bring to everything you do. Our clients and the wider team are stronger because of you. Here’s to many more milestones ahead!

For Learning at Work Week, we sat down with someone from Optimal who’s taking a big step forward in their career.

Senior Cost Draftsman Tracie Watson-Thomas fell into costs law by chance after a recruiter spotted her CV. She landed a junior costs draftsman role straight out of university and quickly realised it was exactly where she was meant to be.

Now she’s taking the next step: embarking on her Association of Costs Lawyers qualification. The course involves e-learning, written assessments, and an in-person advocacy assessment. Thanks to her LLB, Tracie is exempt from two of the modules – bringing her total study duration to 18 months.

Tracie said, “I’m excited to gain my new qualification as this will be the last step in my training. Everything I’ve learned can finally be put into practice, and I know that it’ll give me greater confidence in my role and when working with defendants. I’m grateful for the opportunity Optimal have given me – I won’t let them down.”

Meet Esme Flannery, a new case handler in our Fast Track team 👋

From personal injury claims to cases involving children, Esme guides clients through what can often be a distressing time – supporting them from the start of the process through to settlement.

She’s driven by a passion for helping clients get their lives back on track following incidents that were no fault of their own, and combines that with her legal knowledge to fight for justice and maximum compensation.

With wider experience in high-value cases and clinical negligence, Esme is a valuable addition to the team and we’re grateful to have her with us!

💡 Fun fact – Esme was a prison officer for 10 years! Outside of work, she’s also a golf caddy for her son who is currently ranked 50th in the world for 9-year-olds! The next Tommy Fleetwood, perhaps?
