We're delighted to have raised £1,117.64 for Francis House Children's Hospice through our Big HR Charity Quiz, hosted in partnership with RedGreen Partners.

Francis House supports more than 435 families across Greater Manchester, providing specialist care and a lifeline to children and young adults with life-limiting conditions and those closest to them. The funds raised from the quiz will help support the charity's invaluable work and the vital services it provides to families across the region.

How prepared is your business for the next wave of employment law changes?

That question set the tone for this morning's business briefing at Storyhouse, Chester, where our Employment team explored the practical implications of the strengthened duty on employers to prevent sexual harassment and the unfair dismissal changes.

Led by Debbie Coyne, Partner and Head of Employment, the session took an interactive approach, with attendees testing their knowledge through live quizzes and discussion focused on the new legal obligations facing employers.

Debbie challenged the room to consider whether their organisations are equipped to meet the enhanced duty to protect staff, including from harassment by customers, clients and contractors, and highlighted areas where businesses may need to review existing policies and procedures.

⚽ Fakhruddin Maimoon, Morgan Roberts, Gareth Clarke, Liam Hall, Rachel Mason, and David Miles recently represented Slater Heelis at a charity football tournament hosted by St John's Buildings in aid of Brainwave Charity.

Bringing together businesses from across the region, the event combined some friendly competition with fundraising for a worthwhile cause.

Funds raised will help Brainwave continue providing tailored therapy and support for children with disabilities and additional needs, as well as guidance for their families.

We're delighted to share our Chambers UK 2027 results, which see Slater Heelis recognised across five practice areas alongside a number of individual and team rankings.

This year, our Employment team has achieved its debut Chambers ranking with Debbie Coyne as Head of Department, entering the guide as a Band 5 practice.

The result increases the firm's ranked practice areas from four to five and reflects the continued strength and growth of the team.

We have also seen several new individual rankings:

- Rachel Fletcher is recognised as an Eminent Practitioner in Crime, after previously being ranked in Band 2
- Scott Sands achieves a Band 3 ranking in Corporate
- Carla Murray achieves a Band 3 ranking in Information Technology
- Alex Barley achieves a Band 3 ranking in Personal Injury
- Kaleel Anwar is recognised as Up and Coming in Family Law

Chambers has also continued to recognise a number of our teams and individuals, with Corporate/M&A, Crime and Family retaining their Band 2 rankings and Real Estate remaining ranked in Band 4.

From 30 October 2026, employers will be under a new legal duty to take all reasonable steps to prevent third-party harassment in the workplace.

The new duty extends protection to harassment by customers, clients, contractors, suppliers and members of the public, making it important for employers to review their policies, training and reporting procedures now.
