Everyone at Pabla & Pabla Solicitors would like to extend a very warm 811th birthday to the Magna Carta! πŸ“œ

in 1215, King John of England agreed peace terms with his barons, who had been in open rebellion against him. Assembled at mutual ground in Runnymede, the King signed a document drafted by Stephen Langton, the Archbishop of Canterbury, which laid out the terms of the peace agreement.

That document is now known as the Magna Carta, and is widely recognised as one of the most important legal texts ever written. It established the legal precedent that every "free man" has the right to a fair trial by jury. It outlined that everyone is subject to the rule of law - even the monarch. It even (arguably) laid the foundations for parliamentary democracy by stipulating that the king's actions were subject to oversight by a panel of barons.

Whilst only three clauses of the original Magna Carta remain legally valid today, we mustn't overlook the enormous foundational influence it had on the laws that followed. It influenced the Bill of Rights in 1689, the US Constitution in 1787, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. ✍️

Wherever you are, we hope you're marking the occasion by considering how the legal actions of today can influence the world of tomorrow. 🌍

Our team had a fantastic time at Didsbury Festival last weekend! πŸŽͺ

Since our inception, Pabla & Pabla have provided legal services to the local communities of South Manchester. Amidst our day to day operations, it's easy to forget that locals have actually taken notice of us!

We were really touched by how many festival-goers were aware of the firm and the work we do. Colin, Sara, and James also really enjoyed collecting answers for our deliciously old-school guess how many sweets are in the jar competition. 🍬

Enormous congratulations are due to our Head of Clinical Negligence, Karen Booth! πŸ†

Karen has been named on the Action Against Medical Accidents Pro Bono Recognition List 2026, in light of the time she spent volunteering on their helpline this past year.

We're incredibly proud of Karen for volunteering her time, for free, offering legal assistance those who need it most:

Happy 94th birthday Donoghue V Stevenson! πŸŽ‚

in 1932, May Donoghue sat at a Scottish cafe and drank a ginger beer purchased for her by a friend. Her friend poured the remaining liquid into a glass - along with the remains of a snail that had decomposed in the drink.

May was taken to hospital and diagnosed with severe gastroenteritis. She later sued the drink manufacturer, David Stevenson, which resulted in a landmark legal case that has defined negligence in common law jurisdictions across the world ever since.

Donoghue V Stephenson is one of the first cases law students learn about, in no small part because of how it defined duty of care, the now famous "neighbour principle", as well as tort law as a whole.

Wherever you are in the world, we hope you're consuming a ginger beer* to mark this historic legal occasion. 🐌

*decomposed snail is entirely optional

Research published in the Journal of Psychological Science has proven that it takes just one-tenth of a second for a human being to judge someone and form a first impression. 🧠

With that in mind, we would like to acknowledge Susan Lowe and Kristina Reinberg this ! πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

Receptionists are the public-facing frontline of our firm. They are the respective faces and voices of Pabla & Pabla to everyone wishing to contact us. Of course, their unparalleled professional aptitude goes beyond the limits of simply making a positive first impression to our clients - their role also necessitates a detailed understanding of our internal departmental structure and working processes.

In a matter of seconds, they can understand exactly what a call or email requires, and direct it seamlessly to the right person with a socially-adept delightful finesse.

Thank you, Sue and Kristina, for everything you do for our colleagues and our clients. It wouldn't be Pabla & Pabla without you! πŸ™Œ

The Renters' Rights Act finally comes into effect this Friday (May 1st 2026), and will mark the biggest legal change to the landlord / tenant relationship in years. 🏘️

Members of our Housing Disrepair team had an absolutely fantastic time last week at the Legal Futures Housing Conditions Conference! 🏘️

Housing Disrepair claims are a rapidly evolving area of law, and have quickly become a significant area of interest for law firms, tenants, landlords, and the government alike.

Our very own Jacob Poole presented the headline talk at the conference, sharing some of the industry-first data we published last year. Christian Potter also appeared on the discussion panel afterwards, offering some expert thoughts alongside the wonderful Ellie Staniforth, Julia Cooper, and Julie Twist.

Thank you to all of the delegates and attendees who came to speak to us during the conference - it was fantastic to meet so many of you! 🀝

Were you treated by Dr Leslie Irwin in the last 20 years? πŸ₯

Dr Irwin has been named at the centre of a massive ongoing clinical review led by Spire Healthcare. He is facing many allegations of medical negligence, including amputating hands needlessly and subjecting patients to completely unnecessary, harmful operations.

Like many of you, we have seen heartbreaking stories from his former patients in the news recently. Dr Irwin operated across multiple hospitals in the Sunderland region for 20+ years, and the full scale of the harm he caused is not yet known. Our thoughts are not just with his patients, but their families and loved ones who are also affected.

We are committed to helping as many former patients of Dr Irwin as possible, and will fight to get them the answers and compensation they deserve. You can read more, and contact us, here:

23 long years ago, when Pabla & Pabla first began, we only had one practice area. A burgeoning Road Traffic Accidents department run by our very own Andy Urquhart. πŸš—

A lot has changed since then! Our firm headcount has grown enormously, we moved from the then up-and-coming Northern Quarter to the leafy suburbs of West Didsbury, and our work has blossomed out into new practice areas.

We still approach our work in the same way. Rigorous and methodical, but with highly personal client care where it counts. 🀝
