Tonight on ITV Meridian we discussed the proposed Domestic Abuse (Safe Leave) Bill which would require employers to provide 10 days of paid leave for survivors of domestic abuse. The paid leave would be able to be used for the employee to find a safe place to live, deal with any police interviews or Court proceedings and to seek medical help.

The Government has announced the annual national minimum wage increases for 2025.

The increases to the minimum wage with effect from 1 April 2025 are as follows:

21 and over - will rise from £11.44 to £12.21 an hour

18-20 - will rise from £8.60 to £10 an hour

Apprentices - will rise from £6.40 to £7.55 an hour

The new Employment Rights Bill is being unveiled today, coming changes are to include:

1) removal of the two year qualifying period for unfair dismissal complaints;

2) consultation on different rules during a probationary period;

3) amendments to the rules of flexible working;

4) Statutory sick pay from day one;

5) amendments to the operation of zero hours contracts; and

6) day one rights for paternity, parental and bereavement leave.

These amendments will NOT be in force from today. A period of consultation will be commenced with the day one right to not be unfairly dismissed expected not to come into force until Autumn 2026.
