The kids go back this week. The office fills up again. The house that was full all summer is suddenly empty by half eight.
Pets notice. Dogs especially. A routine that shifted overnight is one of the most common causes of separation anxiety, and September is when it lands.
Most of them settle in a fortnight.
But it's worth asking the bigger version of the question. If a change to the school run unsettles them, what happens if the change is permanent and nobody has written anything down?
