Justice Abroad's Michael P***k has made an urgent communication to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention calling for the immediate release of Aleema Khan, sister of Imran Khan, who was seized on 20 September 2026 and is being detained arbitrarily in Pakistan in an attempt to prevent her from advocating for her brother and for democracy and to seek to dissuade people from joining the mass protest march set for 27 September 2026.

This important submission raises grave concerns regarding her detention and urges the global community to take action.

He states that Michael P***k Mr Au Kam San's international lawyer said that the decision to try the activist behind closed doors shows that the Macau Government "is ashamed" of the case, which has become "a farce" and that the director of Justice Abroad argued that Au Kam San, a 69-year-old former deputy and retired teacher, "does not pose any danger" to China's national security.

On 11 September 2026, leading Greek newspaper To Vima published an in-depth report marking the ten-year anniversary of the murder of George Low in Ayia Napa, Republic of Cyprus — highlighting the ongoing failure of Cypriot and Turkish authorities to secure justice for his family.

George Low, a 22-year-old estate agent from Dartford, was stabbed twice outside Bell's Pub on the Ayia Napa strip on 14 August 2016. At the time of the attack, George was with his friend Ben Barker, who was also stabbed multiple times and seriously injured, but survived. International arrest warrants were subsequently issued for two identified suspects, who fled across the border into northern Cyprus, where they were detained for unlawful entry before eventually being allowed to travel to Turkey.

Despite an investigation being carried out and arrest warrants being issued, no one has been brought to trial for George's murder.

"Politics is More Important Than a Life"

The phrase that has come to define the Low family's decade-long struggle is one they have repeated throughout: "Our son has been murdered, and yet politics is more important than his life."

"To have your son die at such a promising time in his life is obviously a terrible tragedy and something that is difficult for any family to deal with," said P***k. "But they — and we — are determined to get justice."

On 11 September 2026, Justice Abroad submitted an official complaint to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and Special Rapporteurs on Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Assembly, and Freedom of Belief, arguing that Mr Au's detention — both before "trial" and following what appears to be an inevitable "conviction" — is arbitrary and unlawful under a number of established bases set out by the Working Group for assessing the legality of detention.

On the same day, the Macau authorities announced that Mr Au will face a "trial" in camera, with the public and press excluded from the proceedings and from assessing any evidence that the authorities may produce.

Justice Abroad's Director Michael P***k speaks to the Associated Press about his client, pro-democracy ex-Macao politician Mr Au Kam San, who is the first person to stand trial under Macao's widely criticised National Security Law.

Michael P***k highlights that the Portuguese consulate requested — but was denied — access to Mr Au, who is a Portuguese citizen, and that he has no independent lawyer representing him in Macao. Mr Au faces a show trial for his belief in democracy.

For those watching to see if the regime there will release to hospital from prison upon the Court's order, it may be useful to consider how we got to the stage where Pakistan's most popular politician ended up in prison rather than leading the country.

Given the political repression at the time Michael P***k was appointed to chair an independent panel to review the conditions for a free and fair election in Pakistan on 8 February 2024. The panel members were US Senator Paul Strauss, Romanian MP Cătălin Dragoș Teniță, Australian Senator David Shoebridge, and South African MP Brandon Pillay.

After hearing evidence live from Pakistan, as well as from international experts, we considered the situation based upon recognised international legal principles for legitimate elections, and were unable to find that the conditions for a free and fair election were in place in Pakistan.

Therefore, the government authorities that have persecuted Imran Khan and his followers, should never have formed a government after a flaw electoral process.

We hope that the government complies with the order of the Court and that this is the beginning of move back towards democracy for Pakistan.

Top Portuguese journalist Vítor Quintã of AAgência Lusareports on the continued persecution of Portuguese national and former Macao Senator Mr Au Kam San, who is being targeted for his pro-democracy views and his work in standing up for the rights and freedoms of the people of Macao.

Mr Au Kam San's case is a deeply troubling example of how authorities in Macao are silencing dissent and criminalising peaceful political expression. His detention is not only an affront to fundamental human rights — it is a direct violation of the legal protections that Macao is bound to uphold to protect the rights of its citizens.

We call on the European Union and the Portuguese Government to take a principled stance, speak out unequivocally, and demand Mr Au's immediate release and safe return to his family.

Macao is acting contrary to its domestic law obligations to follow the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) — a binding international human rights framework that guarantees freedoms of expression, opinion, and political participation and which has been included in Macao's domestic law.
