Every mother thinks her child is beautiful. But people would stop and tell me. He had the longest eyelashes, and one eye that was always half open.

When I was crying, and he could hear my voice, a single tear rolled down his cheek. I am not sure if there was any connection. But I saw it.

That is the last image I carry of him.

Anniversaries are the hardest. A month before, something happens physically. Energy drops. A heaviness sets in before the mind has even caught up.

On that day, I do not celebrate. I just think about the life he had with me. I tell stories my family have heard hundreds of times. And every time, my husband listens as if it is the first time. He laughs in the right places. He engages. He never once says he has heard it before.

I do not have any new stories. That is all I have. And that is enough.

Most women believe that if they are no longer safe at home, they have to be the one to leave. Take the children, pack a bag, move into a refuge, disrupt everything.

What many do not know is that the court can order him to leave. Not you. Him. There are also orders that can stop him from contacting you, coming near you, or threatening you.

I have met women sleeping on someone’s sofa who had no idea the court could have done that for them.

If you are thinking about leaving, speak to me before you go. Book a free consultation using the link in the bio.

People would come to me with their own losses. A husband. Both parents. And I understood where they were coming from. But I had experienced both. The loss of my parents and the loss of my child.

When you lose your parents, you lose your identity. When you lose a child, you lose part of yourself. A part that never comes back.

You expect to be buried before your children. Not the other way around.

Any mother who has been through it will know. She will never be the same person again.

Grief does not follow a neat path. There is shock first, then confusion, then anger. The stages exist, but everyone moves through them differently, and not always in order.

When you lose a child, I do not believe you ever get over it. You just learn to accept it. And that is how you move forward.

There is a difference between getting over something and learning to carry it.
