National courts play a decisive role in articulating, interpreting and enforcing international legal norms, especially norms designed to protect individuals and the societies they live in, from human rights violations. Lauren Lederle has co-authored a report published by the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales offering an independent preliminary review of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC), alongside Dr Gus Waschefort (4-5 Gray's Inn Square).

Commissioned by the Ombudsperson Institution of Kosovo, the report evaluates the KSC's compliance with international human rights standards and provides preliminary observations on key aspects of the KSC's legal framework and practice, including provisional release, judicial independence, admissibility of evidence, and equality of arms.

The report advances a series of targeted recommendations aimed at strengthening the KSC's fairness, transparency, and institutional legitimacy.

The report was peer reviewed by Kevin Jon Heller (Doughty Street Chambers) and Haydee Dijkstal (33 Bedford Row Chambers).
