The buyer who didn’t trust me.
I met this buyer back in 2020.
And honestly? He wasn’t particularly nice to me in the beginning.
He would constantly tell me that estate agents mess you around, that they don’t tell you the truth, that they can’t be trusted.
I remember thinking, Why am I bothering with this viewing? I’m sure I can find a nicer buyer than this.
But then I stopped myself.
Because I used to take things personally. And actually, this man wasn’t talking about me. He was talking from experience. He’d been sold a dream by agents before, only to find that the reality didn’t match what he’d been promised.
So instead of taking offence, I decided to change his perception.
I spent a huge amount of time with him throughout the transaction, making sure he knew what was happening, communicating constantly and making sure that when there were hiccups, and of course there were a few, he never felt like he was on his own.
And that’s something I learnt very quickly about estate agency.
People need to feel cared for.
If someone feels disposable, like you’re only interested in getting the next deal over the line, you will never get the best version of them.
But when people feel listened to, looked after and genuinely cared about, everything changes.
When the deal completed, he gave me this card.
And honestly, it meant more to me than I can put into words.
Because this was someone who, at the beginning, didn’t trust me.
And I’d managed to turn that around.
Fast forward to now, and he still lives locally. I bump into him in the pub every now and again, we have a chat, and he still tells me how good that experience was.
He’s recommended me countless times. He supports my business. And most importantly, the relationship continued long after the transaction was over.
That’s why I do what I do.
Not just to sell houses.
Not just to get the next deal.
But because I genuinely care about the people on the other side of the transaction.
So yes, this card is a throwback.
But every time I read it, it still hits just as hard.
Because this man didn’t trust me.
And I changed that.
And I’ll continue trying to do exactly that with every client who comes through my door. ❤️
