Ansar Ansar is a law firm that helps migrants in London. Ansar was established in 2015 by Usman Sheikh. Usman is a solicitor who has been helping migrants since 2007.

He is accredited by the Law Society in immigration law. Usman trained as a solicitor at Linklaters. He has an LLM with Distinction in International Law from the University of London (SOAS) and a BA from the University of Cambridge (Trinity College). ✅ Civil Penalty Objection: Diligent work led to a great result for our client!

Our client was working at a local business when the Home Office Enforcement Authorities arrived. He was shocked when they later issued him with a £200,000 immigration penalty. They said that he had been employing people with no right to work in the UK.

He came to us looking for assistance to challenge the penalty. He was confused as the notice for the penalty arrived over a year after the Home Office visit. Above all, he could not understand why he had been issued with the penalty as he was not the employer.

He did not know the process to challenge the penalty and he was no longer working at the business. This all brought a lot of stress and anxiety to him.

We stepped in by providing him with clear guidance and assistance with filing the objection to the penalty, ensuring it included all the relevant arguments and was filed within the time limit. We remained consistent in our communication with him to keep him up to date with changes, which eased a lot of pressure.

We are happy to share that the Home Office has withdrawn the civil penalty against him. As a result, the penalty has gone from £200,000 to 0!

You will know that the UK Government imposes strict immigration requirements for universities.

It is now introducing significant changes to make the system even stricter. These changes are linked to the number of asylum claims made by international students.

The new rules will update compliance thresholds, requiring higher visa approval, course enrolment and course completion rates.

They will also introduce a rating system linked to compliance levels.

What will this all mean for you?

London is always an attractive destination for international students and you will already have a highly diverse student body.

However, you will need to re-assess your international recruitment of students. If not, you face cuts to CAS allocations and more. You could even lose your sponsor licence.

✅ A great result - helping a band to perform at a festival!

Our client, a UK tour manager for a Japan based band came to us feeling overwhelmed by a complex process for travelling to the UK to perform at a music festival.

The band had to meet many Government requirements giving them permission to travel to the UK and perform here. With strict deadlines for the festival and numerous band members to accommodate, the stakes were high.

To mark the end of , we are reflecting on this year’s theme: courage.

In particular, we want to recognise the extraordinary courage of LGBTQ+ refugees in the UK.

Through our work, we see first-hand the challenges they face at every stage of their journey.

Many grow up experiencing discrimination from all sides, yet still find the strength to begin expressing who they are.

They then take the difficult step of coming to the UK, often with great uncertainty about what lies ahead.

When claiming asylum, they navigate a system that is difficult to understand.

In that system, they share their personal experiences—often with strangers—revisiting events they would rather not relive.

At our firm, we have supported many LGBTQ+ refugees throughout this process.

We do so by ensuring that they are prepared and understand what to expect, by making sure that they feel heard and by helping them secure refuge here in the UK.

We are proud to support people who show such courage.

In our latest post for , we are turning to Article 34 of the Refugee Convention.

Under Article 34, States are required to facilitate the assimilation and naturalisation of refugees as much as possible. Assimilation is a cultural process – about becoming part of a society. Naturalisation is a legal process – recognising that refugees have become part of that society.

Helping a refugee to become part of British society involves many different things and many different people. A key part of this is creating a sense of stability for the refugee, so that they can plan their future in the UK, the country that has given them refuge.

For many refugees, naturalisation represents the culmination of their process of assimilation here. However, it is not always the best option. For some refugees, it may make it harder to bring their family to the UK. For others, it may remove protection against being returned to the country that they had fled.

We help refugees to become part of society in the UK by giving them a solid legal foundation here, enabling them to make informed and confident decisions about their future.
