We’re proud to share that our Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution, Naureen Shariff, has once again been included in this year’s Pro Bono Recognition List.

This acknowledgment reflects Naureen’s continued commitment to ensuring access to justice for those who need it most.

A well‑deserved achievement and a great reflection of the work our teams continue to champion.

On 17 April 2026, we were delighted to join the Women in Criminal Law 8th Birthday Dinner - a brilliant celebration of the community, progress and leadership within our profession.

Blackfords LLP had strong representation across several tables, and it was great to see so many colleagues, peers and friends coming together to support the organisation and its work.

07/05/2026

On 16 April 2026, Paul Parsons and Samantha attended the Thames Valley Police Bravery Awards, where Blackfords LLP were again proud to act as a sponsor.

The evening was a powerful reminder of the exceptional courage shown by officers across the region. Each story highlighted the kind of split‑second decision‑making and unwavering commitment that keeps communities safe, often at great personal risk. Meeting the officers recognised on the night was both humbling and inspiring.

We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside them and acknowledge their extraordinary service.

At the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) yesterday, Associate Solicitor Jessie Slim appeared as advocate on a committal for sentence where our client faced activation of a 19-month suspended sentence imposed for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and possession of a bladed article.

He had since pleaded guilty to possession of Class A and B drugs, placing him in breach and at real risk of custody.

Following compelling and focused submissions, the Court was persuaded not to activate the suspended sentence.

The outcome was a community order with rehabilitation requirements and a modest fine for the breach thereby avoiding custody in very serious circumstances. A strong result for our client.

Another example of a Blackfords advocate even in the highest Criminal Courts providing continuity of representation from start to finish of a case very much to the benefit of our client.

Terri-anne Taylor has received some touching feedback from a client recently.

They described Terri-anne’s approach as “very patient and attentive” in dealing with the quirks of their situation and their neurodivergent brain – noting the many questions and large amount of information they shared, and how supported they felt throughout. After becoming disheartened trying to navigate a financial order alone, and struggling to find affordable help, they said Terri-anne’s guidance was “second to none” and made the process feel manageable rather than daunting or exorbitant.

The full feedback:

‘I would like to stress how grateful I am for your very patient and attentive approach with the "quirks" of our situation as well as my neurodivergent brain (so many questions, so much information shared with you...). It was probably nothing unusual for you, but for us, after having tried to do this ourselves and subsequently fallen into despair trying to get support without breaking the bank, to the point of being ready to just give up on a financial order altogether, the way you accompanied us was second to none.

Calling the GMB Union line was a last attempt, and I am so glad I did and that they recommended Blackfords. As a union rep myself, and as a divorcee, I will be singing your praises and recommending your services to anyone who'll listen. And I will also spread awareness that a financial order, whilst it does very much need the expertise of professionals, does not have to be daunting or exorbitant!

Thank you again, and my very best wishes’.

Well, done, Terri-anne - fantastic work and very well-deserved feedback.

Rachel Wilson, Daniel Cundy and Riannah McEwan represented a university student undergoing a disciplinary investigation for allegations of sexual misconduct, physical misconduct and dishonesty.

They worked with the student and their family to prepare the student for their interview which involved the preparation of a written statement denying the allegations to accompany the student’s oral responses.

The case also included raising key matters arising from the University investigation to ensure that the student was protected against any possible police complaint and laid the groundwork for the consideration of a potential complaint by the student to the Office of Independent Adjudicators if required.

Following the interview, the University indicated its decision to take no further action on each of the complaints investigated such that our client was able to continue their studies without interruption.

This case highlighted how a clear strategy and firm engagement at the early stages of a student disciplinary investigation can make all the difference in minimising the impact on a student and their studies.”

Private Prosecution discontinuance - Financial Crime Partner Jennifer Richardson and Shauna Marriott were recently instructed by an individual facing multiple allegations of Fraud brought by three separate private prosecutors in relation to the same allegedly fraudulent property scheme.

Following a thorough review the Crown Prosecution Service took the decision to take over conduct of the prosecution and offer no evidence against the defendants. Not guilty verdicts were entered by the Court in respect of all counts at Woolwich Crown Court on 13 February 2025.

They were assisted by Counsel Rhys Rosser of 2 Bedford Row leading Shalin Sood, in house Solicitor-Advocate and Senior Associate at Blackfords LLP.

Blackfords LLP regularly represent individuals who face prosecutions bought by private individuals and prosecution authorities. This result demonstrates the teams experience and understanding in not only defending these prosecutions, but the strategic approach to be adopted in persuading the CPS to take over conduct of those prosecutions.

We’re always grateful when clients take the time to share their experiences. Recently, a client wrote to express their thanks to Mark Jones for his “outstanding support” and “brilliant representation” in a recent court matter:

‘I felt it was important to pass on my sincere gratitude to Mark for his outstanding support.

Mark was extremely thorough in taking the time to understand me and used this effectively in presenting my defence. He was excellent in portraying the type of person I am, which made a significant difference to me. The experience was, to be honest, a terrifying one, but Mark immediately put me at ease. He also took care to keep my parents informed throughout the hearing, which meant a great deal to all of us.

I appreciate that this may have been a relatively straightforward case compared to others he deals with, but Mark was absolutely brilliant. I cannot thank him enough for both his representation and the advice he gave me after the hearing. I have certainly learned a valuable lesson from my mistake.

Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to Mark.’

At our firm, we pride ourselves on combining legal excellence with genuine care and understanding. Well done on your hard work Mark!
