"Will I lose everything?"

It's the question almost everyone asks first. And it's why so many people never open the envelope.

Two people walk into mediation. One knows the numbers. One is still hoping, and too frightened to look.

I've been through a divorce myself. Believe me, it's better to know.

SmartJudge isn't a calculator that adds up your assets. It shows you, in plain English, how a judge in England and Wales might approach your finances. Free. Yours to keep. We won't call, email or chase you.

Negotiate from clarity, not fear.

Full disclosure: we don't actually sound like this in the office. 🤖 Give us a ring and you'll find we sound reassuringly normal (and we make a decent cup of tea ☕).

But the message is too important to get lost in our voiceover skills, so here it is plainly:

You don't need to pay a solicitor £200 an hour to find out whether you can afford to separate. 💸

SmartJudge tells you for free. Answer a few questions about your finances and it shows you how a judge in England or Wales would be likely to divide things, in plain English.

It's this simple. Secure, confidential, and only you know you've used it. Shhh 🤫

Give it a go and tell us what you think. Honestly, the good, the bad and the "please change that voice". 👇

Apologies in advance, the video is a bit cheesy. 🙈 But stick with us…

What if the first person you told about your separation wasn't a solicitor?

Because it often starts at 2am, when you can't sleep and you're quietly wondering: What happens to the house? What about my pension? Who gets what?

If you're in England or Wales and contemplating separation or divorce, SmartJudge shows you, free, how a judge would be likely to divide your finances, in plain English.

It's secure and confidential, and only you know you're on it. Shhh 🤫

Please try it and tell us what you think. We're making it better for everyone, and it's free for you.

We are blown away!

We just found out that we have been shortlisted as a finalist for the LexisNexis Family Law Awards 2026, not once but twice: Excellence in Non-Court Dispute Resolution and Innovation in Family Law.

Non-Court Dispute Resolution is the category for people helping families reach fair outcomes without going anywhere near a courtroom, our entire reason for existing.

Innovation in Family Law is for people trying to change how this industry actually works, also our entire reason for existing.

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.

We built whatwouldajudgesay.com on a simple, mildly annoying idea: you shouldn't have to book a solicitor just to find out roughly what a judge would do with your case.

A lot of the industry didn't love that idea. Two finalist nominations later, from family law's own awards body, tells a different story.

Fun twist: in Non-Court Dispute Resolution, we're up against our wonderful colleagues at Paradigm Family Law LLP. May the best one win!!

We look forward to celebrating with all the finalists on Wednesday 18 November in London.

What if the most important question in divorce isn't:

"What will I get?"

What if it's:

"Will I ever be happy again?"

Most people have never heard of the psychological theory known as the Happiness Baseline.

It suggests that after major life events — good or bad — people gradually adapt and return towards their normal level of wellbeing.

Divorce can feel overwhelming when you're living through it. But the research suggests most people are far more resilient than they realise.

In our latest article, we explore what the Happiness Baseline means and why it may change the way you think about divorce, recovery and the future.

Most people make their biggest divorce decisions too early.

Before they know what a judge would likely do.

Before they know what a fair financial outcome looks like.

Before they know whether the panic they feel is helping or hurting.

The London Marathon is a useful reminder that divorce is not won in the first emotional sprint.

In England & Wales, financial outcomes are assessed through evidence, disclosure, fairness and proportionality — not who reacts first.

Clarity changes pace.

When you understand your likely outcome, decisions become calmer, quicker and far more strategic.

Understanding your likely outcome changes everything.

Judicial clarity, supported by the specialist family law team at Paradigm Family Law LLP.

Most people go through divorce without ever knowing what a judge would actually do.

And that’s where things start to spiral.

There’s activity everywhere.
Emails. Letters. Opinions.

But not always progress.

Divorce often feels like unfamiliar territory — uncertain, overwhelming, and full of noise.

What changes everything is perspective.

Not more argument.
Not more back-and-forth.

But a clear answer to one question:

What is a judge actually likely to do here?

Based on how judges approach financial remedy in England & Wales, outcomes follow structure — not volume, not pressure, not who argues louder.

This is exactly what whatwouldajudgesay.com provides.

Clarity first. Decisions second.
