Direct Access to a Barrister

By instructing a barrister directly you gain the benefit of having a close working relationship with an expert without involving an intermediary. In some instances, It is no longer necessary to retain the services of a solicitor. You can, therefore, make cost savings because you incur just one set of legal fees whilst obtaining expert advice from the outset.

How does it work?

Direct Access instructions can be taken from individuals, companies or other professionals for specialist advice or representation in court.

Our Direct Access barristers can provide a range of legal services, including:

• Drafting of legal documents including, for example, employment contracts
• Representation at court or in tribunals
• Advisory services in writing or in conference
• Mediation of disputes without recourse to litigation

We have experts in the following areas of law:

• Employment and discrimination law
• Partnership disputes
• Company law
• Contractual disputes
• Debt actions
• Insolvency
• Landlord and tenant law
• Property disputes
• Matrimonial law
• Licensing
• Personal Injury

If you would like to discuss whether your organisation could benefit from working with St Albans Chambers via Direct Access, please contact the Practice Manager, Alex Carter–Gaunt, on 01727 843383, or via email at [email protected].

It's always lovely to hear good feedback about our services.

Dear Alex

I would like to thank you for taking the time to help me understand what your Chambers offer in terms of ADR / Mediation, the processes etc. I found your explanation comprehensive, succinct, logical and dare I say hopeful saliently in terms of potential reduced costs and time.

Honestly, I think the service you provide is incredible.

What is Mediation?

Mediation provides a quick, confidential and cost-effective way of resolving disputes without going to trial, allowing parties to remain in control of the process and to address issues outside the narrow scope of litigation. A trained mediator is appointed by all of the parties to the dispute to help them resolve their dispute in a manner that is acceptable to them all.

Mediation can be used to settle any kind of dispute, from the simplest to the most complex. Litigation does not even have to have been started. Mediation can be a way of cutting through the web of issues to find an acceptable outcome that matches the needs of the parties and reflects the litigation risks.

Mediation avoids the uncertainty and stressful nature of court hearings and is encouraged by the courts and appreciated by clients. Mediation rarely takes longer than a day and will cost much less than proceeding to a court hearing.

For more information about mediation please get in touch.
