At the Medical Journalists’ Association (MJA) Symposium 2026 on The State of Maternity: Safety, Inequality, and Culture, our Medical Negligence Partner, Sanja Strkljevic, called for stronger accountability to improve maternity safety.

Investigations continue to highlight similar patterns, and too often families are left seeking answers. Listening to those affected by avoidable harm and acting on those lessons is crucial if we are to prevent future tragedies.

With the Ockenden review into maternity care at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the national independent investigation led by Baroness Amos expected soon, we hope that contributing to these important conversations will help drive progress towards safer, more compassionate care for every family.

It was a privilege to attend and sponsor the MJA Symposium 2026: The State of Maternity – Safety, Inequality and Culture on 17 June 2026.

Bringing together clinicians, researchers, policymakers and journalists, the event created an important space to reflect on the current state of maternity services in the UK and discuss the changes needed to make them safer and fairer for all.

We were proud to see our Medical Negligence Partner, Sanja Strkljevic, contribute to these conversations — speaking about whistleblowing, duty of candour legislation, and the need to break down the culture of fear. Sanja also joined a powerful panel on supporting families in their fight for justice, helping to ensure their voices and experiences are heard.

Leading data breach lawyers have raised concerns following reports of a hack of the personal data of more than 450,000 University of Nottingham students and alumni.

In a statement on 10 June 2026, the University confirmed that its student records system had been unlawfully accessed by cyber criminals.

The Leigh Day Personal Injury team are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge this June in support of Day One Trauma Support ⛰️ Swipe to meet just a few of the team members taking part in the challenge!

Over 12 hours, the team will tackle Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough across the Yorkshire Dales to raise awareness and support the incredible work Day One does for people affected by major trauma. The charity helps patients and families rebuild their lives after catastrophic injury, supporting them through recovery and rehabilitation.

The BBC reports on documents which it's claimed reveal Shell continued operating a major oil pipeline in Nigeria despite being aware it was causing widespread pollution.

Leigh Day represents the Ogale and Bille communities in the Niger Delta, who have filed claims against Shell over the pollution. Read the BBC's report here:
