We are thrilled to introduce Alexandrina Yewande Hemsley as the newest member of our panel at Limelight Resolution.

Alexandrina Yewande Hemsley’s interdisciplinary creative practice deep dives towards the sensorial and bodily as ways to find breath and voice amidst the unjust and inequitable. Across her 18 year career, she has advocated for racial and disability justice within the contemporary dance sector. After experiencing the mediation process first hand to resolve a workplace dispute, Alexandrina appreciated the uniquely sensitive way that mediation addresses conflict. She qualified as a Civil and Commercial Mediator from London School of Mediation in 2023. She draws together a holistic and embodied approach to mediation - centering listening, curiosity and compassion.

Alexandrina’s dance works have been commissioned by Dance City, Somerset House, TheaterForman, Sadler’s Wells and Cambridge Junction amongst others. Her critical writing has been published by Sick of The Fringe, the Foreword for Selina Thompson’s Salt (Faber & Faber), SPILL Festival and Hereafter (Unbound). Other publishing includes The Silver Bandage (Bookworks) and LADA’s Live Art Almanac Vol. 5. Most recently, her essay, Feeling My Way Through Several Beginnings is in Performance, Dance and Political Economy. Eds. Katerina Paramana and Anita Gonzalez (Bloomsbury Press). She served as a Trustee for Chisenhale Dance Space (2015-2020) and she is a current member of What Next? Culture Leadership Group.

In 2020, Alexandrina founded Yewande 103, an organisation that believes our stories live in our bodies. Yewande 103 foregrounds the tender overlaps between creativity and mental health through immersive, accessible dance projects and sector advocacy. This includes live performance, screen dance and workshops across arts and social healthcare settings. 'Yewande' means, 'mother has returned’, and our ethos blooms around intergenerational, cyclical patterns of expression and repair.

We’re delighted to welcome Barra Fitzgibbon to our panel at Limelight Resolution, bringing his diverse expertise and passion for communication to the discussion.

Qualified Irish Solicitor Barra Fitzgibbon stayed in the law for 5 years. The temptation of a move to the big-city lights of London and the chance to work in communications at Channel 4 Television was all just too tempting. 19 years later and another move beckoned. This time into Higher Education, where Barra currently works as Learning Development and Community Outreach manager at Bloomsbury Institute.

Barra is an Attentive Listener and delivers keynote speeches and workshops around the benefits of excellent communication and, in particular, listening as hard as you can! Barra's also written a play, and its debut is being performed at Seven Dials Playhouse at the end of April this 2025.

Barra's experience and insights will undoubtedly enrich our exploration of mediation in the media landscape!

Introducing Elizabeth Ling

We are delighted to introduce Elizabeth Ling, a mediator with Limelight Resolution, specialising in the performing arts and entertainment industries. Her approach—“tough on the problem, gentle on the person”—showcases her emotional intelligence and knack for interpreting the unspoken, using varied communication methods.

Raised in rural Suffolk, Elizabeth was brought up in a family with a robust work ethic, viewing work and family as the foundations of a fulfilling life. She learned that every profession—whether hairdressing or joinery—demands full dedication to unlocking one’s potential and supporting others. This ethos shapes her mediation practice.

With nearly 30 years in dispute resolution, Elizabeth excels at handling intense emotions and distress, thriving in deeply human situations. She is committed to helping people navigate challenges, viewing her role as an opportunity to foster positive change. Her 28 years in Social Housing refined her skills, as she managed complex County Court possession claims (rent arrears, anti-social behaviour) while working to prevent homelessness for Local Authority landlords. Balancing tenant support with enforcement sharpened her mediation expertise.

Registered with the Civil Mediation Council and accredited by the London School of Mediation—where she coaches, trains, and sits on the panel—Elizabeth is certified in Civil, Commercial, Workplace, and Transformational Mediation. Beyond the creative sector, she serves as a panel member for Westwood Mediation and collaborates with Osbourne & Wise, a boutique employment law firm in London, providing workplace mediation and conflict avoidance coaching.

As an Adult Crime and Family Magistrate, Elizabeth handles complex family disputes and delivers prompt, informed rulings on the Warrant Panel, enhancing her conflict resolution abilities. Currently, she offers in-house transformational mediation for The Stone Foundation, a housing charity aiding men with severe mental health challenges. She facilitates difficult discussions on shared living, family dynamics, and health services, striving to avert hospitalisations, re-incarceration, or homelessness. She finds profound fulfilment in this work, acknowledging that mental health struggles can affect anyone, regardless of background or success.

Elizabeth’s extensive experience, coupled with her compassionate yet resolute approach, makes her an invaluable asset to Limelight Resolution and those she serves.

We’re thrilled to welcome Mark Gosnell to the Limelight Resolution team!

Mark brings an exceptional wealth of experience to our mediation services. Admitted as a Solicitor in 1981, he spent nearly two decades in a busy High Street practice, rising to partner and heading the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Department. In 1998, he was appointed a District Judge, later becoming a Regional Costs Judge and a Specialist District Judge in Clinical Negligence, Industrial Disease, and Catastrophic Personal Injury.

His judicial career continued to flourish as a Senior Circuit Judge and Designated Civil Judge for Leeds, North Yorkshire, Bradford, and West Yorkshire, overseeing ten courts and managing High Court appeals across the North-Eastern Circuit. With Section 9 authorisation, Mark sat as a High Court Judge in the King’s Bench Division, Business and Property Court, and Administrative Court. Known for his courteous and efficient approach, he often facilitated negotiated settlements that reflected his profound understanding of commercial realities.

A respected trainer of judges and a frequent lecturer on costs issues, Mark retired from the bench on March 31, 2024. Since then, he has trained as a Mediator with the London School of Mediation and is now accepting instructions in civil litigation and court procedure, including costs, on either a facilitative or evaluative basis.

Please join us in welcoming Mark to Limelight Resolution—his expertise and insight will undoubtedly shine brightly in our team!

Limelight Resolution Welcomes Creative Industry Standards

The newly formed Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA) has published its key standards for conduct in the Creative Industries.

From the start, Limelight Resolution has worked closely with CIISA to ensure our services support these standards. We are committed to adhering to them and providing a safe, inclusive space for employers, creatives, and unions to resolve compliance concerns constructively.

We aim to be the ‘go-to’ resource for Employers, Creatives, and the Unions when CIISA standards are in play, with an experienced team on board, including from the Creative Industries. Furthermore, we hope makes us ideal for that important role in your career or production.

CIISA’s CEO, Jen Smith, said:

“Setting out clear and very practical Standards for our sector to socialise and embed is an important first step as we move towards providing CIISA’s full range of services such as mediation, dispute resolution and safely and confidentially being able to report behaviours of concern.”

Coinciding with Limelight’s launch, CIISA’s standards were shaped by consultation. In 2021, Dame Heather Rabbatts scoped an Independent Standards Authority following serious allegations in the Creative Industries, with input from Limelight and industry leaders.

The standards cover four areas:

✅ Safe Working Environments: Free from psychological, sexual, and physical harm.
✅ Inclusive Working Environments: Fair and accessible to all.
✅ Open Reporting Mechanisms: Concerns raised without fear of retaliation.
✅ Responsive Learning Culture: Turning feedback into growth and accountability.

Baroness Helena Kennedy, Chair of CIISA, stated:

“Despite much work in this area, we know that bullying and harassment, including sexual harassment and behaviour of a discriminatory nature, remains prevalent in the creative industries. Power imbalances, informal working practices and environments, and job insecurity are all contributing factors. The particular impact on freelance and self-employed members of our creative industries workforce is especially acute, so the need for CIISA is ever deeply felt.”

Limelight Resolution is dedicated to supporting CIISA’s vision. Learn more at ciisa.org.uk/standards/.

In the last week or two, our followers may have noticed the hot dispute arising in the UK Creative industries over the UK Government’s controversial proposals to allow AI developers to train AI models using copyright material. Copyright material created by artists, musicians, and other creative artists, or material where copyright is owned by corporates. See for example, https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/feb/25/why-are-creatives-fighting-uk-government-ai-proposals-on-copyright.

The proposals presently include the concept of an ‘opt out’ so that AI companies would be expected to abide by requests not to use copyright material, much as one can flag exclusion requests for search engines when publishing web content. However, it is far from clear how one could prove usage after the event, or enforce remedies. Especially given the current lack of effective mathematical means to ‘unlearn’ material once used for training, and to remove any benefits derived from the wrongfully used material.

Limelight’s dispute resolution services offer options for parties to disputes over use or misuse of copyright material for AI purposes. Limelight also facilitates conversation and resolution where terms of agreement and licensing are sought to permit fair use of copyright material.

In the coming weeks, we will continue to roll out our top team of ADR professionals, and other exciting news announcements on “Limelight Fridays”, so please follow us and sign up for news via our website at limelightresolution.com. Did you know this?

Before the advent of electric lighting, theatres used heated calcium oxide (quicklime) to illuminate their stages.

Quicklime, when heated to a high temperature, emits a brilliant white light. This was achieved by placing quicklime in a special lamp known as a “limelight,” which was often fuelled by burning oxyhydrogen gas (a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen).

The intense light produced by the heated quicklime was used to spotlight actors and performers, making it one of the most effective ways to illuminate the stage before the widespread use of electric lighting.

Limelight Resolution is delighted to introduce Valerie Uchechukwu Ebuwa who is joining our panel.

Here is just a short summary of aspects of Valerie's biography:

Valerie started her training at Lewisham College before obtaining a BA HONS degree from London Contemporary Dance School. Amongst other companies and people she has worked with she lists Vincent Dance Theatre, Clod Ensemble, Eddie Peake, Protein Dance, Holly Blakey, MichaelDouglas Kollektiv and Compagnie Thor. As a maker, she has choreographed and created Body Data, CTRL+V, and Between Elements as well as her blog and casual work for The Stage Magazine, Valerie writes for I am Hip Hop magazine; a printed and online publication championing Hip Hop culture. Her work has been featured in Crack Magazine, i-D, Glass Magazine and The Earth Issue.

Valerie has worked with a range of musician: Jamie xx, FKA Twigs, Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Solange, Jack Peñate, Parquet Courts, Gorgon City, Paloma Faith and Chase & Status.

One significant project she has created is ValUE. It is a multi-layered project that challenges racism and ideas of ‘conventional’ beauty head on. The name comes from Valerie Uchechukwu Ebuwa’s initials, and also stands for the quality of the project’s content, in which she works to decode racial oppression through dance and visual art. Her work illustrates how the modern inability to contextualise Black bodies in contemporary spaces repeatedly occurred throughout history, and offers a better perspective on old contexts. It asks us to hold a higher regard for Black females. She incorporates her own body in order to offer different perspectives on the Black female image, which has largely been objectified, exoticized and excluded from art history. ValUE critiques the systems which have restricted the public’s exposure to the Black female form. ValUE was the inaugural material archive at Siobhan Davies Studios and since has been shared at Brixton Village. The ValUE framework has been shared at London Contemporary Dance School, the BA at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, Clod Ensemble, the Young Associates at Sadler’s Wells and Artistry In Youth Dance.

Limelight Resolution is pleased to announce Michael Kain as our Chairman, bringing decades of pioneering experience to our specialised mediation and ADR services for the performing arts and entertainment industries.

Michael is a musician and music producer, having performed on the same bill with numerous artists from the Hollies to Morecambe and Wise.

In 1976, Michael had the idea to make costs drafting a profession as opposed to a cottage industry and set about revolutionising and whole new arena of costs drafting. Like so many others working in that cottage industry at the time, Michael started working from his mother's front room as a sole practitioner. In 1978, he formed a partnership, opening offices in Bishop's Stortford and London and in 1990 re structured the business and Kain Knight was the first Costs Company to become a PLC.

Michael has been at the sharp end of costs for almost fifty years and has been recognised not only as an innovator but as a market leader. He has been called at times the “Godfather of Costs”.

He is currently the CEO of Costs ADR, as well as spending his time on music and film.

He is a founder and Director of The People’s Cinema, a company that helps kickstart the careers of young filmmakers.
