The Luminary Bakery is a social enterprise which provides training, employment and community to disadvantaged women in London. They work holistically alongside women who have experienced gender-based violence and suffer multiple disadvantages, providing training and preparation for employment alongside trauma-based support. The Luminary Bakery uses baking as a tool to help women rebuild their lives and create a future for themselves through employability and entrepreneurship.

The organisation’s goal is to encourage women to find independence through employment. They work with a cohort of women during a two-year training period, up-skilling and preparing them for a working world and an independent future. Their delicious cakes went down a treat at our final High Tea social on our Winter Vacation Scheme 🧁🍰

Future Travers Smith Trainees Across the world! 🌍✨ Eloise and Wilf, two of our March starters making the most of their time off before starting their training contracts. They bumped into each other whilst travelling in Bogotá, South America. They spent a few weeks visiting the same places such as Salento, a small town in the Andes where this photo was taken.

There we have it, another two Vacation Schemes complete!✨

Vacation scheme student, Sophie, shares her highlights of the week⬇️

“I recently spent a really enjoyable week at Travers Smith for the 2022 Winter Vacation Scheme. I have learnt a great deal from the experience, gained invaluable insight into the firm, and I’ve met some lovely fellow vacation schemers. Here are some of my particular highlights:

1. I arrived at Travers Smith on Monday morning feeling apprehensive, but the doorman Kingsley and the relative peacefulness of the office immediately sent me at ease🏢
2. On Tuesday, I arrived early before a talk on the firm’s international strategy in time for breakfast at Braithwaites, the firms cafeteria. A cinnamon roll, eggs, and muesli, set me up for a jam-packed day!🍳
3. On Wednesday morning, I had a meeting with my team in preparation for Thursday’s negotiation workshop regarding an acquisition of a company.
4. Later that day, we were fortunate enough to have lunch in the client dining rooms with some of the firm’s partners. It was really interesting and enjoyable to speak to the partners over a delicious three course meal prepared by Travers’ amazing kitchen staff🍽️
5. After lunch, we were taken on a fascinating walking history tour of the City of London, which included stepping into St Brides Church and hearing about the life of prisoners in Newgate Prison⛪️
