📣 Are you a woman working in law? We want to hear from you!

The legal profession makes significant demands of everyone within it - but in our annual survey this year we want to find out how are women managing their wellbeing? We partnered with RPC LawCare - the mental health charity for the legal sector Ann-Marie Goodbody to take the temperature from the ground up, as we've been doing for the last 7 years now ....

LawCare's Life in the Law 2025 study found that women reported lower wellbeing scores and higher levels of burnout than their male counterparts. Issues such as the impact of fertility treatment or menopause remain poorly understood across much of the sector and many legal employers still lack the policies or support structures to address them.

Today we launch our annual survey to take the temperature of how women in the legal sector are really feeling - and what organisations should be doing to better support them!

Whether you're a solicitor, barrister, paralegal, legal executive, or work in any other capacity in law, your experience matters and your voice counts.

👉 The survey takes just a few minutes and is completely anonymous.

The findings will be shared in a report and will include recommendations that can help organisations introduce measures that actually work for women in law.

If you work in the legal sector, please do take a moment to share your views and share the survey within your organisations or to any woman who should have their say - please pass this on!

Together, we can build a clearer picture of what meaningful, lasting change looks like for women in law.

We are delighted to share that this year’s Heilbron Lecture featured reflections and discussion from three distinguished voices in law and justice:

👩‍⚖️ Dana Denis-Smith – Founder of Next 100 Years and a driving force for equality in the legal profession.
👨‍⚖️ Greg Jones KC – Acclaimed barrister with extensive experience in complex public law and human rights cases.
👩‍⚖️ The Baroness Shami Chakrabarti – Leading human rights lawyer, campaigner, and member of the House of Lords.

Together, they expanded on the 2025 Lecture theme of “Creation”, considering how the law can and must respond to emerging technologies in biomedicine and beyond, ensuring justice for present and future generations.

📍 The Old Bailey, Courtroom No. 1
⚖️ A historic setting for a lecture that challenges us to think about the future of humanity, rights, and law.

26/08/2025

In her powerful lecture at the Old Bailey, Dr Rumiana Yotova explored the legal and ethical challenges of biomedical technologies that can reshape, even re-create, the human genome.

⚖️ Key questions she raised:
• What are the limits of human rights in the face of new technologies?
• How can the law balance risks with opportunities?
• What responsibilities do States and corporations hold for future generations?

📌 Delivered in Courtroom No. 1 at the Old Bailey, a space where history meets the future of justice.

Though the full lecture could not be recorded, this moment captures the thought-provoking themes at the heart of her address.
