Registering an LPA does not mean it can never be cancelled.

If the donor still has mental capacity to make that decision, it confirms that an LPA can be ended, including after registration.

A formal deed of revocation is required for a registered LPA, and the relevant attorneys must also be told.

There are also separate rules for removing only one attorney.

The process matters because simply deciding you no longer want the arrangement does not itself update the registered legal document.

Need clarity about an existing LPA? Honey Legal can help you understand what options may be available.

There is no single probate price that fits every estate.

Honey Legal explains that cost depends on the size and complexity of the estate, which is why the team carries out a full discussion and fact-find before providing an expected cost with a transparent breakdown.

That approach matters because one estate may involve relatively straightforward administration while another can require significantly more work.

Families deserve to understand what is involved before deciding how they want to proceed.

Honey Legal’s probate team can talk through the circumstances and explain the likely scope of the work.

If your family needs probate support, start with a conversation about the estate itself rather than guessing what the process will cost.

Moved house? Changed your name? There is a right way to update the records connected with an LPA. 🏡

If the donor or an attorney changes their name or address, the Office of the Public Guardian should be informed so the official records can be kept up to date.

It is also important not to simply amend the registered LPA document yourself, as making changes directly to it could affect its validity.

So if your family has recently moved or someone connected with the LPA has changed their name, adding the OPG update to the practical to-do list is a sensible next step.

A small administrative task can help keep everything accurate.

If you are unsure how a change affects an existing LPA, Honey Legal can help you understand the correct next step.

A sole trader, partner and company director do not necessarily face the same issues when planning who could deal with business matters.

For example, a company director’s role is personal and an attorney appointed under an LPA does not automatically become a director or gain the right to exercise directors’ duties.

Company articles and wider governance arrangements may also need to be considered.

For partnerships, the partnership agreement may also affect what happens if one partner becomes unable to act.

That is why Business LPA planning should start with the structure of the actual business rather than relying on a standard assumption.

Honey Legal can help business owners explore the LPA side of their planning and understand what questions need to be considered alongside their existing business arrangements.

An LPA involves more than filling in a form. 📝

There are decisions to make about who you appoint, how authority should work, what instructions may be appropriate and how the completed document is registered.

Honey Legal’s process begins with a free, no-obligation consultation.

The team can then prepare the LPA around your circumstances and support the registration process with the Office of the Public Guardian.

For families who would rather have someone guide the process from beginning to end, professional support can make each stage easier to understand.

If an LPA is on your family’s list, speak with Honey Legal about getting the process started.

Blended families can bring more relationships, more expectations and sometimes more assumptions about inheritance.

Recent STEP research found that 41% of practitioners surveyed had seen an increase in disputes within blended stepfamilies, while 71% identified complex blended families as a leading cause of legal or planning challenges around inheritance or business succession.

The law may also treat different family relationships differently. For example, under intestacy rules in England and Wales, stepchildren are not treated as descendants unless legally adopted.

That does not mean disagreement is inevitable. It means clarity matters.

Writing down your intentions and having sensible family conversations can reduce the number of unanswered questions left for later.

If your family structure is more complex, Honey Legal can help you think through the details that deserve to be made clear.

Mortgage payments, household bills and financial commitments do not automatically stop because someone can no longer make a particular financial decision.

A Property and Financial Affairs LPA can give an attorney authority to deal with matters such as bank accounts, bills, property and investments, subject to the terms of the LPA.

Without an appropriate arrangement already in place, family members do not simply acquire that legal authority.

Official guidance explains that a court application may instead be required for decisions to be made on someone’s behalf.

This is why LPA planning is not only about later life. It is about deciding in advance who may deal with practical financial matters if support is ever needed.

Speak with Honey Legal if your family wants to understand how a financial LPA may fit your circumstances.

A Business LPA is something to put in place before the business urgently needs it. 💼

To create a Lasting Power of Attorney, you must have mental capacity at the time the document is made.

It also needs to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before an attorney can use it.

For a business owner, that timing matters.

If illness or an accident suddenly leaves you unable to make particular financial decisions, it may be too late to create an LPA at that point.

Planning earlier gives you the opportunity to decide who you would want involved and put the legal authority in place before it is required.

If your business does not yet have this part of its continuity planning covered, speak with Honey Legal before there is an urgent need.
