2020 data from the SRA shows that we have far to go in the legal profession when it comes to diversity. Take a look at some of the stats in their key findings here and consider what action your law firm or legal department could take to support diversity in the legal profession. As always at Accutrainee, we are pleased to have removed barriers in creating the Accutrainee Scholarship Programme, which makes it easy for law firms and legal departments to take meaningful action by making a difference to a law graduate.

We collect diversity data from the law firms we regulate in England and Wales every two years. Our most recent collection was in Summer 2019, when 96% of law firms reported their data to us.

The Accutrainee scholarship programme is more than work experience. It has been created to offer deserving candidates from minority backgrounds the opportunity to have their solicitor examinations paid for whilst gaining the necessary work experience in an in-house legal department or a law firm to help them achieve their dream of becoming a qualified solicitor. When we created our model, we did this driven by the need to diversify the trainee pool, to create opportunities for great graduates in a market where it seemed increasingly hard to do so. We also wanted to ensure legal services providers had access to this diverse talent pool. From these two market forces, Accutrainee was born.
