Six years of growing my hair. Five years of locs. And just like that… I cut them off 😂
I’d wanted locs since I was a teenager, but growing up in Nigeria, there was always a lot of cultural pushback around them especially from our parents’ generation. Locs can be seen as irresponsible, rebellious, or even “ungodly” by some, which I find it ironic considering it’s literally our natural, God-given hair.
And then I’m a lawyer, so I’m expected to look a certain way lol.
I finally decided to get locs when I became completely independent from my parents as a grown adult because, honestly, I knew I couldn’t have tried it otherwise 😂
I loved the journey, but after five years of locs, I decided to cut them for the simplest reason possible:
I just felt like it 😂
So, obviously, I had to surprise my friends and family and film their reactions.
My mum was VERY pleased with my decision 😭😂
My friends, on the other hand… not so much.
What do we think about the new look, though - upgrade, or should I start growing them back immediately? 😂👇🏾
