21 years ago today, our founder graduated with his law degree.

The photo below is from 2 September 2005. A young graduate at the very start of his career, with no idea where it would lead.

Today, Sukhvinder Singh Nara is a dual qualified lawyer in England and Wales and in India, and the founder of Nara Solicitors in Canary Wharf, London.

In his own words:

Imagine waking up to find out that your Sponsor Licence has been revoked.

For a domiciliary care provider, this can put far more than a business at risk.

That was the situation faced by one of our care sector clients.

The Home Office had revoked their Sponsor Licence. But revocation does not always mean the end of the road.

There is no ordinary appeal or administrative review against a Sponsor Licence revocation. However, in appropriate cases, there may be legal routes to challenge the decision.

We reviewed the case, challenged the revocation.

The result? 🎯

The Home Office reinstated the Sponsor Licence.

Your Sponsor Licence is not just a licence to sponsor workers. It can be fundamental to the continuity of your care business.

Our client already held a sponsor licence. Then the company's shareholding changed, and the ownership structure of the business changed with it.

The Home Office advised that the existing licence be made dormant, and that a fresh application be submitted to reflect the new structure.

That is an uncomfortable place to be. The licence you hold is parked, and your ability to sponsor anyone depends on a new application being approved.

A new application is not a formality. It is assessed on its own merits. The Home Office looks at the organisation as it now stands: whether it is genuine, whether it can offer genuine vacancies at the right skill and salary level, and whether the HR and recruitment systems are there to meet sponsor duties.

We ran that application, and requested a CoS allocation as part of it so the company could sponsor as soon as the licence was in place rather than applying again afterwards.

✅ New sponsor licence granted
✅ 4 Certificates of Sponsorship allocated

A sponsor licence is granted to a specific organisation, based on what the Home Office was told at the time. That includes who owns and controls the business. Changes are reportable through the SMS, normally within 20 working days.

If your ownership is changing, or you are not certain your licence still reflects how the business is set up today, speak to us before it becomes urgent.

£16,000 Recovered for a Client Who Was Defrauded With a Fake CoS

She was offered a job in the UK. She was told what she had to pay to secure it. She paid over £16,000. She was then handed a document carrying the sponsoring company's details. As far as she knew, the job was real.

She came to us after the money had already gone. We acted immediately. The named sponsoring company confirmed the CoS was fraudulent. They had never issued it.

✅ The full £16,000 recovered
✅ Recovered within a week

Two things every worker should know:

🔴 A CoS is not a paper certificate. It is an electronic record on the Home Office system.

🔴 A genuine sponsor cannot charge you for the sponsor licence fee or the cost of a CoS. If you are being asked to pay, the problem is on their side, not yours.

Sponsorship fraud does not look like fraud from the inside. It is designed that way. If you have paid money for a job offer and something does not feel right, act quickly.

Our client was in the final stages of her BSc Health Sciences degree, with one module left to repeat. Then her university told her it intended to withdraw her Student sponsorship.

For an international student, that is as serious as it gets. Once a university notifies the Home Office, leave is curtailed, the student must depart the UK, and years of study can be lost. Her Graduate Route eligibility was at risk too.

There was no time to spare. Over the weekend, our team:

✅ Reviewed her academic position and the university's handling of the issue
✅ Prepared detailed legal representations
✅ Secured a standstill so nothing irreversible reached the Home Office
✅ Escalated to senior university management before the Monday deadline

The result: the university reconsidered. A new CAS will be issued, she will complete her degree, and her Graduate Route eligibility is protected. 🎓

Instead of facing removal in her final year, she can finish what she started.

A sponsor licence does not come with unlimited CoS.

Our client's business was growing faster than its allocation. Without additional CoS, hiring would stall.

Many employers treat an additional CoS request as a quick admin task. It is not. The Home Office can examine your compliance history, the roles you are filling and whether your recruitment need is genuine. Weak requests get delayed or refused.

Track your CoS allocation and plan ahead, not after your last certificate is assigned.

✅ New Sponsor Licence Granted in Just Over a Week Under Priority Service

A care provider wanted to change their shareholding to a 50-50 split between spouses. A routine update, submitted through the SMS as required.

The Home Office saw it differently.

On 8th July, they came back with a demand for a brand new sponsor licence application. Not an amendment. A fresh application, with a strict 20 working day deadline attached. Miss it, and the client's ability to sponsor workers was at risk.

We got to work straight away.

The new application was submitted under the Home Office's priority service on 3rd August. Further inquiries and document requests followed, and we responded on 5th August with everything needed.

✅ On 12th August, the decision came through. Licence granted.

From the initial response in July to the grant in August, our client kept their sponsorship in place without a gap, thanks to fast preparation and the priority service.

The lesson here is simple. A change in shareholding can affect who controls a business, and the Home Office may treat that as grounds for a completely new licence application, not a minor update. If you're a sponsor licence holder planning a change in ownership, check how it could affect your licence before you touch the SMS.
