Another successful Frontier Worker Permit renewal for an offshore worker.

The worker's previous Frontier Worker Permit application had been refused and an Administrative Review was submitted. As many employers are aware, Administrative Reviews can take a considerable amount of time and there is no guarantee as to when a decision will be made.

The employer urgently required the worker to return to the UK to continue offshore operations, so waiting for the Administrative Review was not a practical option.

Following a detailed review of the worker's employment history, we identified that a fresh application could be pursued. We prepared comprehensive legal representations and supporting evidence demonstrating the worker's frontier worker activity, including evidence of employment and work undertaken in the UK. The case also involved addressing a gap in employment and explaining the circumstances surrounding that period.

We are pleased to report that the application was approved and a new Frontier Worker Permit has now been granted for five years.

Frontier Worker Permit renewals continue to present challenges, particularly where there are gaps in employment, periods spent outside the UK, or previous refusals. Careful preparation of the evidence and a thorough understanding of the Frontier Worker rules can make a significant difference to the outcome.

If your organisation employs frontier workers in the offshore, maritime, energy or engineering sectors and requires assistance with permit renewals, refusals, Administrative Reviews or workforce planning, our team would be happy to help.

๐Ÿ”น Complex ILR Success Following Domestic Violence ๐Ÿ”น

At Visa Professionals, we recently assisted a client in securing Indefinite Leave to Remain under the Domestic Violence provisions following the breakdown of a long-term relationship with their British partner.

This was far from a straightforward application.

The client had fled an abusive relationship after years of coercive and controlling behaviour. Like many victims of domestic abuse, they had not reported every incident to the police and had very limited documentary evidence available at the outset. The client was also experiencing significant emotional trauma and was concerned about their ability to remain in the UK independently.

The case required a detailed review of the client's immigration history, careful analysis of the Domestic Violence provisions and the preparation of comprehensive representations supported by evidence from multiple independent sources. We worked closely with the client to obtain supporting documentation, including evidence from healthcare professionals, support organisations and other third parties familiar with their circumstances.

One of the key challenges was demonstrating that the relationship had permanently broken down as a result of domestic abuse despite the absence of extensive police involvement. The application therefore relied on a combination of corroborative evidence, a detailed witness statement and carefully structured legal submissions.

Following submission of the application, the Home Office granted Indefinite Leave to Remain, allowing the client to rebuild their life in the UK free from abuse and uncertainty.

Cases involving domestic abuse are often among the most challenging and sensitive matters in immigration law. Behind every successful outcome is a person seeking safety, stability and the opportunity to move forward.

If you require advice regarding a Domestic Violence application, settlement, British citizenship or any other immigration matter, please feel free to get in touch.

Many businesses in the oil and gas, energy, engineering and offshore sectors are unaware that the UK Global Business Mobility - Service Supplier Visa can provide a valuable route for overseas contractors and specialist personnel to work in the UK on specific projects.

This route is designed for employees of overseas service providers, or self-employed professionals based overseas, who are coming to the UK to deliver services under a qualifying international trade agreement.

Unlike the Skilled Worker route, the Service Supplier Visa can be particularly useful where there is no direct UK employment relationship and the individual remains employed by the overseas company.

Common examples include:

โœ” Offshore engineering projects
โœ” Technical specialists providing services to UK clients
โœ” Equipment installation and commissioning
โœ” Inspection, maintenance and support services
โœ” Specialist consultancy assignments
โœ” International service contracts within the energy sector

To qualify, there must generally be a genuine contract for services between the overseas service provider and the UK client, together with sponsorship from a UK organisation holding the appropriate Sponsor Licence category.

We regularly assist businesses in the oil and gas, offshore, engineering and energy sectors with:

โ€ข Sponsor Licence applications
โ€ข Adding the Service Supplier category to existing licences
โ€ข Certificate of Sponsorship assignments
โ€ข Visa applications for overseas personnel
โ€ข Immigration compliance and workforce planning

If your organisation engages overseas contractors or specialist personnel and would like to explore whether the Service Supplier route may be suitable, feel free to get in touch.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ New EU Entry/Exit System (EES) now in force for UK travellers

The European Union has introduced the new Entry/Exit System (EES), replacing manual passport stamping with a digital border monitoring system across the Schengen area.

Key points for UK nationals travelling to Europe:

โ€ข Passport stamps are being replaced by electronic records
โ€ข First-time travellers may need to provide fingerprints and facial biometrics
โ€ข The system automatically tracks entries, exits and overstays
โ€ข The 90/180-day Schengen rule will now be monitored digitally
โ€ข Delays are expected at some airports, ferry terminals and rail crossings during implementation

Important for dual British/EU nationals:

British dual nationals travelling to the EU should generally use their EU passport when entering Schengen countries. Travelling on a British passport may result in being treated as a third-country national under the EES system.

Similarly, British dual nationals travelling to the UK are now expected to use a valid British passport or Certificate of Entitlement when entering the UK.

International travellers, offshore workers and globally mobile employees should ensure that travel records remain consistent, particularly where tax residency, mobility compliance and right to work considerations are involved.

If you require immigration or mobility advice relating to UK/EU travel compliance, our team at Visa Professionals Immigration Services can assist.

This is a major shift towards automation and enforcement. While many will benefit from automatic upgrades, others face real risk if they have gaps in residence or evidence.

If you hold Pre-Settled Status, now is the time to:

โœ” Review your UK residence evidence
โœ” Check your eligibility for Settled Status
โœ” Take action before the Home Office does

We are pleased to share a recent successful outcome for a naturalisation application.

This was not a straightforward case. The applicant had a previous immigration breach which raised suitability concerns under the British nationality requirements. Careful consideration was therefore required to address the Home Officeโ€™s concerns.

We prepared detailed legal representations, setting out the applicantโ€™s circumstances, including their established family life in the UK, their positive contribution to the community, and the overall context of their immigration history.

Following submission, the application has now been approved.

What makes this case particularly rewarding is the journey behind it. We have been supporting this client since 2019, when they first approached us whilst in breach of immigration laws. Over the years, we assisted them in regularising their status, securing Indefinite Leave to Remain, and now successfully obtaining British citizenship.

This outcome reflects the importance of a well-prepared application and clear legal representations, particularly where there are historic issues affecting suitability.

All identifying details have been removed to protect client confidentiality.

If you require assistance with complex immigration or nationality matters, feel free to get in touch.
