Ibn Sina's Experiment
Ibn Sina (Avicenna) conducted an experiment.
He placed two goat kids in separate cages.
Both kids were of the same age, weight, and breed, and both were fed the same type of fodder. They were cared for in the same manner; that is, all conditions were kept equal.
Then, he placed another cage on one side of the kids' cages, and in that cage, he put a wolf. Only one of the kids could see the wolf.
After a few months, the kid that could see the wolf died because it became restless, fearful, and weak, even though the wolf did nothing to the kid. The kid died due to the fear and stress it felt.
Meanwhile, the other kid, which could not see the wolf, continued to eat well and gain weight because it remained quite peaceful and calm.
In this experiment, Ibn Sina observed the positive and negative effects of mental factors on health and the body. Unnecessary fear, worry, anxiety, and stress damage the human body.
