Trust disputes can arise for many reasons, including beneficiaries feeling they are being kept in the dark, trustees disagreeing over decisions, or concerns that a trustee is not acting in the best interests of the trust.

As part of our Private Wealth Disputes video series, Roman Kubiak TEP, Head of our Private Wealth Disputes team, answers some of the common questions around trust disputes, including:

πŸ”Ή What is a trust dispute?
πŸ”Ή Can beneficiaries force a trustee to provide information?
πŸ”Ή What happens when trustees cannot reach a decision?
πŸ”Ή How are costs dealt with in trust disputes?
πŸ”Ή What are the financial issues when a trustee leaves office?

πŸ”΄ Our Employee Led Networks have been doing fantastic work, from internal events and education to external partnerships and conferences.

Recent highlights include our annual Gender Balance Network event with NatWest, which brought together recently advanced colleagues from across our offices, NatWest’s Manchester Pride event, and the Mastering Diversity Conference, where we sponsored the Business Zone alongside NatWest.

This work has recently been recognised by The Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL), with Katherine Allen, Partner, collecting the Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year award for our Employee Led Networks on our behalf. πŸ†

The award came as a surprise, following a nomination from one of our European colleagues. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in our networks.

πŸ“ The Employment Appeal Tribunal's (EAT) decision in Next Retail Ltd & Anor v Thandi & Ors [2026] is an important development for employers facing equal pay claims.

The judgment confirms that market forces can, in the right circumstances, justify differences in pay, but only where employers can clearly evidence the reasons behind those decisions.

✍️ Rhiannon Dale, Partner in our Employment and HR Services team, explains what the decision means for employers and why contemporaneous evidence is likely to be key in defending future equal pay claims.

πŸ”΄ This week marks Major Trauma Awareness Week, which runs from 14 to 20 September 2026.

The campaign shines a light on what happens after the emergency is over, and why awareness must lead to meaningful support for those affected.

A serious injury, such as a head or spinal injury, or the loss of a limb, can change every part of a person’s life, from how they move and work to how they communicate and live day to day.

✍️ Cari Sowden-Taylor, Joint Head of our Serious Injury Team, looks at what major trauma is, why awareness needs to translate into action, and how the right support and legal advice can help someone rebuild their life.

🏫 We are proud to have played a pivotal role in supporting Cardiff Council on the development of the new Willows High, a state-of-the-art secondary school valued at approximately £60 million.

Led by Caroline O'Flaherty, our Commercial Property team has been at the heart of this landmark project since 2021, when the firm advised on the acquisition of the former Splott Market site that would become the new home of Willows High.

Set to replace the existing Willows High School, the new school will be transformative for the local community, providing places for 900 pupils plus a Specialist Resource Base (SRB) for individuals with additional learning needs.
