My experience has been that the informality of remote hearings removes the stuffiness of in court hearings without detracting appreciably from the seriousness of the proceedings. That advocates take instructions by WhatsApp during proceedings should be seen as a handy tool in the current reality and again, promotes a smooth process. Judges, in their case management function can call erring parties to order where conduct is inimical to the rules and procedures, so I support remote hearings as a practical way forward for the administration of justice.
