A bittersweet goodbye to our legal intern Neja, who finishes her internship to return to university to finish her law degree

Neja joined us as a student and leaves having supported our solicitors on family law matters, attended court hearings & worked directly with clients and counsel, often at some of the most difficult moments in people's lives. Family law asks a lot of anyone emotionally, and Neja handled it with a maturity & care well beyond her experience

What stood out most was her willingness to ask questions, learn more and her readiness to say yes to new challenges. Those habits will take her further than any single piece of legal knowledge

We care a great deal about placements like this. The profession is stronger when students see how the law works in practice, not just how it reads on paper. Neja made the most of every opportunity, and our team was better for having her

"My placement at southgate solicitors has turned out to be so much more than simply gaining experience in family law. I've had the opportunity to assist fee earners with their cases, attend numerous court hearings, communicate directly with clients & barristers and see first hand how the law operates in practice. I've developed not only my legal knowledge but also my confidence, ability to work within a professional environment and take on responsibility in approaching new tasks & situations.

I am especially grateful for Hasan for his trust and support throughout my placement & the wider team for creating such an amazing work culture. I've always felt comfortable asking questions, learning from those around me & taking on new challenges & I genuinely feel that I was set up to succeed from day one. That support has made such a difference to my experience and has allowed me to get so much more out of my experience.

Our Seventh Annual Team Trip! 💯

Not every firm takes the whole team away for a weekend. We do, and we have every year since 2019 (except for that 2020 lockdown when we could only spend it in a park! 😅)

This summer we returned to Center Parcs: swimming, spa, hot tubs, activities, and plenty of time just being together away from our files and laptops 🫡

Family law is demanding work. The people doing it deserve time to switch off, reconnect and actually enjoy each other's company ☺️

It's one of the traditions we're proudest of 💙

Louisa joined us straight out of university - no safety net, just a willingness to get stuck in. Two years later, she's grown from her client services role into a legal assistant position, and she's now studying part-time for her SQE, and she has just recently passed her SQE1! 🔥

That's a lot of ground covered in just two years, and what strikes me is the attitude she's brought to all of it - she's not just going through the motions, she's genuinely excited about where she's heading. That kind of energy is rarer than people think, especially this early in a career.

Louisa said something in her own words that I think captures it well: she looks ahead and still sees so much to learn and do, and that excites her rather than overwhelms her. That's exactly the right mindset for someone at the start of a legal career - and it's exactly the kind of person we want building theirs here.

Proud of what you've already achieved Louisa. We're glad you chose southgate solicitors as the place to start, and we're looking forward to watching the next chapter. 🥂

"Two years already!

I joined the team straight out of university in the client services team, and have grown into my current role as legal assistant while studying for my SQE.

As always, I'm so grateful for everything I've had the privilege of doing and working on here. I've gained so many valuable lessons and memories and it's incredibly exciting to think that I'm still so early on in my career and still have so much ahead of to learn and do - I think it's a real testament to the firm and our team that I can look on with such excitement!!

More than anything, what stands out here is our team - I'm genuinely so lucky to work alongside such kind, funny, wise people!
