π¨ NEW UK RULE LETS EXPLOITED SKILLED WORKERS CHANGE JOBS
From 8 October 2026, the UK will introduce new protections for certain Skilled Worker visa holders who are victims of modern slavery.
β
If a Skilled Worker has been referred to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) and receives a positive Conclusive Grounds decision, their normal work restrictions may be lifted.
πΌ This means they may be allowed to:
β’ Work for any employer
β’ Become self-employed
β’ Take voluntary work
π« The exception is work as a professional sportsperson or sports coach.
Previously, Skilled Worker visa holders were normally tied to their sponsored job. This change is intended to help victims leave abusive or exploitative employers without immediately losing their ability to work in the UK.
β³ Effective from: 8 October 2026
β οΈ This change does not automatically apply to every Skilled Worker visa holder. Specific eligibility requirements must be met.
