A thought-provoking family office event in Mayfair last night, centred on alternative investment, expansion, overseas , succession and crisis management.

Our founder Karen Holden MPhil (Cantab) spoke on overseas moves, reputational risk and mitigation, crisis response, and succession planning. An engaged room with very candid conversations.

Key takeaways:

• Long-term investments are being approached with far greater caution structure and risk mitigation are front of mind in the current climate.
• Cash, gold and crypto continue to be favoured by those concerned about longer-term geopolitical uncertainty.
• While there is still interest in overseas expansion and relocation, many family offices are pausing decisions until greater stability returns.

I met this week in a room named after Margaret Thatcher . A true reminder of what leadership can look like at its strongest.

Whatever your politics, there’s no denying the conviction, clarity and authority she brought. She led from a position of strength, made difficult decisions, and kept the country’s direction firmly in focus. She was respected and truly the type of leader we need now.

True leadership isn’t about pleasing everyone. It’s about:
• Having conviction when it matters most
• Making tough calls others may not agree with
• Standing firm under pressure
• Leading with purpose, not popularity
• Earning respect not just in the moment, but over time

It’s that combination of strength, dignity and clarity that people remember. I know I do. I might not be as tough but I am driven , focused and I hope I can achieve a legacy to be proud of , but I worry , look how easy successors have knocked it all down. Planning growth also means planning your exit and for successors to be trained , engaged and likewise committed to your or their objective too.

A timely reminder of the kind of leadership that puts people and the bigger picture first.
