Trade unions have reacted angrily to government plans to cut civil servants' redundancy pay by an estimated 25.9%. This comes at a time when ministers seek to reduce civil servant jobs by 91,000.

The PCS trade union accused the government of wanting "to get job cuts done on the cheap".

But a Cabinet Office spokesperson said that in a time of "high national debt and increasing cost pressures" the Civil Service Compensation Scheme should be "affordable" to the taxpayer.

This could well end up in court again as it did in 2017 when the government tried to reduce redundancy payments.

Ministers say redundancy pay must be "affordable" as they seek to cut 91,000 civil service jobs.

We posted about this a little while ago when temperatures reached 40C. It's not going to be quite so hot but when is it too hot to work? No law in the UK says a given temperature is too hot or too cold to work.

But guidance from the Health and Safety Executive says a workplace's temperature must be "reasonable" with "clean and fresh air".

With much of the UK enduring another period of hot weather, some workers will face very high temperatures.

A boss allegedly sacked a worker just minutes after saying goodbye to them at the end of their last shift.

A union has called for a legal limit on how hot it can be in a workplace as a red warning for extreme heat begins.

The GMB union said workers should not have to contend with temperatures any higher than 25C, as forecasters predict a record high of 41C in England.

There is currently no law in the UK or Ireland which states any given temperature is too hot or cold to work.
