When a commercial dispute arises, most people's instinct is to head to court. But for businesses involved in large projects or long-term partnerships, litigation can cost you far more than money — it can cost you the relationship itself.

In his latest article, Vikesh Navsaria looks at how arbitration and mediation offer businesses faster, cheaper, and far less damaging routes to resolution. From international joint venture awards enforceable across 172 countries, to mediation settling up to 90% of commercial disputes — ADR works, even for high-value, technically complex cases.

If you're facing a dispute now — or can see one on the horizon — our team is here to help.

⚖️ A landmark moment for civil liberties in the UK.

On 13 February 2026, the High Court ruled that the Home Secretary acted unlawfully when she used terrorism legislation to ban Palestine Action. The court found she had breached her own policy on proportionality — and that human rights protections cannot simply be stripped away by labelling a group a terrorist organisation.

However, there is an important warning: Palestine Action remains proscribed. Until a further court order is made, expressing support for the group could still result in criminal charges under the Terrorism Act.

Saunders Law trainee solicitor Nikita Agarwal has written a guide to the judgment — what was decided, why it matters, and what comes next for those affected.

If you or someone you know has been impacted, or if you believe a public body has made a decision that breaches your rights, please don’t wait. Time limits in Judicial Review are strict and unforgiving.

What are a director’s legal duties — and what happens if they get it wrong?

In his latest article, Matthew Purcell, Managing Partner at Saunders Law, provides a clear guide to the seven duties set out in the Companies Act 2006 and explains how the courts are approaching them in practice.

Recent Supreme Court authority confirms that directors can still face liability even years after stepping down, depending on their conduct. At the same time, regulators are taking an increasingly active approach to enforcement.

The article also looks at practical steps directors can take to protect themselves — from proper documentation and governance processes to adequate insurance cover.

If you sit on a board — whether executive or non-executive — this is essential reading.

Imagine getting on a video call with your CFO and colleagues to verify an urgent transaction. You see their faces. You hear their voices. Everything checks out.
Then you transfer £20 million… and discover everyone on that call was AI-generated.

This actually happened to Arup in January 2024. Fraudsters used deepfake technology to impersonate executives in a video conference, fooling an employee who was actively trying to verify the request's legitimacy.

Matthew Purcell breaks down the legal implications:
🔹 Can employees be held liable? It depends on the sophistication of the deepfake and whether they received proper training.
🔹 Are employers responsible? Yes – courts expect multi-layered prevention: training, verification protocols, and detection technology.
🔹 Can you sue the fraudsters? Legally yes, but they're typically overseas and unidentified.
The bottom line: Visual verification isn't enough anymore. Companies need deepfake-specific security measures.

🎯 MAJOR POCA ACQUITTAL

Delighted to announce a unanimous NOT GUILTY verdict for our client after a 5-year money laundering investigation.
Our client, a respected dealer in high-value collectibles, was accused of facilitating money laundering (s.328 POCA 2002) after unwittingly receiving funds from fraud victims while legitimately trading with a customer.
Key to the defence: our client operated outside the regulated sector, had no AML training obligations, and was expecting legitimate third-party payments for genuine sales.
After meticulous preparation including comprehensive jury bundles and compelling character evidence, the jury took just 3 hours to unanimously acquit.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in the legal sector, offering new opportunities to enhance legal work. However, the legal professionals you instruct in your matter need to be mindful of the way in which they use AI to assist their work. Over-reliance or abuse of AI tools can present serious risks and challenges.
