ONE ALLEGATION. MORE THAN ONE LEGAL BATTLE.

An allegation of domestic abuse can affect far more than a criminal investigation.

Your children. Your career. Your professional reputation. Your future.

And new legislation means domestic abuse findings must now be formally stated in open court when sentencing in relevant cases.

Why wait until charge to protect your position?

At Garrick Law, our criminal, family and regulatory specialists work together from day one.

Early evidence. Strategic police interview advice. Coordinated representation.

Our objective is to prevent unjustified charges wherever possible, not simply prepare for a trial.

Because investing in early advice is investing in your future.

SUSPECT OR VICTIM?
She was found unconscious after a spiking call.
She ended up in the dock.
Police were told a woman may have been spiked and where to find her. They arrived to find her unconscious in her car.
A male officer opened the door, shook her awake and asked:
“Do you think you have been spiked?”
She said no.
Of course she did.
Spiking is, by its very nature, surreptitious. The rather inconvenient point is that the victim is not usually invited to witness it.
Do this job long enough and cynicism can become part of the uniform, as reliable as the wig and twice as itchy.
Most files blur into one another.
This one did not.
I read it once and could not put it down. Out of principle, I offered to take the case pro bono.
Because one question seemed to be missing:
When did a woman found unconscious after a spiking call stop being a potential victim and start being a suspect?
Five months later, the prosecution offered no evidence. Not guilty verdicts were entered.
But perhaps the more important question comes afterwards.
Police guidance on spiking exists. Guidance, however, is only as useful as the person at 2am who knows how to apply it.
Officers attending a suspected spiking should understand that a potential victim may have no idea what has happened to them. Evidence may need to be preserved. Testing may matter. Investigation matters.
Guidance sitting in a document protects no one. Guidance understood on the front line might.
Some cases you take.
Some cases take you.

NOT GUILTY. ONE YEAR AGO TODAY.

A client messaged me this morning:

“My life could have been so different.”

They faced allegations concerning sexual images found on a computer purported to have been in their control.

The images were there.

But that was never quite the end of the question.

How did they get there? Who knew they were there? And what did the underlying programming evidence actually prove?

As instructed counsel, I wanted to understand precisely what was happening beneath the screen.

We instructed a series of digital experts. Our defence expert identified a highly specific issue involving cached files.

The prosecution expert initially dismissed it.

I was not persuaded.

So we kept going.

More questions. More analysis. More expert evidence. Persistence, preparation and an eye for the detail that did not quite fit.

Ultimately, the prosecution offered no evidence.

One year later, my client reminded me of the anniversary.

“My life could have been so different.”

And that sentence stayed with me.

Because allegations of a sexual nature can change a life long before a court determines whether they are true.

Mental health. Relationships. Reputation. Confidence. All can suffer.

Not Guilty can take seconds to say. Rebuilding a life can take rather longer.

Sometimes the smallest detail changes everything.

The Evidence Was Disappearing. We Acted Before It Did.

Our Private Crime Team represented a client accused of r**es and a series of serious sexual offences alleged to have occurred on more than one occasion.

We identified immediately that digital evidence could be critical.

Snapchat messages can disappear. We acted quickly, engaging with police and pressing for the relevant digital evidence to be secured and examined before it was lost.

That evidence proved key in exculpating our client.

Had Garrick Law not intervened when we did, potentially crucial evidence could have been permanently lost.

The investigation was discontinued.

No further action. No charge.

In r**e and serious sexual offence investigations, what happens before charge can change everything.

The Result Tells You What Happened. The Lawyer Tells You Why.

Earlier this week, we shared the result.

Now, meet one of the people behind it.

Aisha Shamsuddin talks about her journey into law, what brought her to Garrick Law, and the solicitor she has become along the way.

Because behind every case is a client.

And behind every result are people who cared enough to get the detail right.

Can do this:
When the money tells a different story, the detail matters.
In a recent multi-defendant financial crime trial, our client was the only defendant to secure a unanimous acquittal.

The case demanded meticulous forensic analysis: testing transactions, cross-checking timelines and examining movements on key dates. Garrick Law instructed Minka Braun of 33 Chancery Lane, with our team working closely throughout preparation and trial.

In complex financial crime cases, the full picture is often found in the detail.

Experience. Judgement. Results.

Our First Pupil. Her Next Chapter.

Some firsts deserve celebrating.

Garrick Law is delighted to welcome Lea Allirajah, our first ever pupil.

With Law at Warwick and further study at Carnegie Mellon and Columbia University, Lea brings intellect, curiosity and a talent for asking the questions that matter.

Pupillage begins a new chapter for Lea and, rather wonderfully, for Garrick Law too.

Because growth is not just about getting bigger. It is about investing in the people who shape what comes next.

Lea brings light, intellect and happiness to our team.

And, as the video proves, fighting off the Sunday Scaries too!

Welcome Lea. Happy Sunday from Garrick Law.

The Court Sees a Case. We See a Client.

Today, one of our solicitors is meeting a client whose trial has been delayed.

When serious proceedings stretch over years, knowing the case is only part of the job.

We need to know the client too.

What is happening in their life. When they are struggling. When they need support.

At Garrick Law, client care is not separate from the legal work.

It is part of the legal work.

Serious about the case. Just as serious about the client.

Life Cannot Be Adjourned

For defendants on bail, court delays are not simply dates moving in a diary.

Complex trials are now being listed years ahead. In the meantime, life continues.

Children are born. Relationships change. Physical and mental health can deteriorate. In financial crime cases, assets may remain restrained while proceedings continue.

And sometimes, after years of waiting, a trial fixture is vacated and the wait begins again.

At Garrick Law, we know that serious criminal defence is not only about preparing the case. It is about supporting the client through the years it may take to reach trial.

Because the court can adjourn a case.

Life cannot be adjourned.
