It doesn’t matter whether you are a solicitor, hairdresser, accountant, estate agent, personal trainer, tradesperson or business owner, people choose people.

And I think it has taken me years to properly realise that.

For a long time, I tried to fit into a mould of what I thought a solicitor should be, how I should look, how I should speak and how I should present myself professionally.

I now realise I never needed to.

Your personality, your authenticity, your life experience, your values and the way you treat people are all part of what you offer.

You are the product.

Opening my own firm was scary, but deep down I knew it would be okay because I knew the quality of work, experience and work ethic I could bring.

What I have realised since is that I don't need to fit into anybody else's mould to be successful. In any industry, there will always be other people offering the same service.

The difference is you!

So be good at what you do, work hard, treat people well but don't lose yourself trying to look like everybody else.

We are pleased to officially welcome Macie to the team!

Macie assists the firm on a part-time basis alongside studying Law at the University of Chester. She will be providing administrative support to our Principal Solicitor, gaining valuable practical experience with a view to commencing her legal training in the future.

Macie is extremely hardworking and thorough with a great eye for detail and a real willingness to learn. She has already become a valued member of the team and we are delighted to support her as she gains valuable experience alongside her studies.

To every sixth form student who didn’t get the results they hoped for yesterday… your results do not define your future.

When I left school I hadn’t done well in my GCSE’s and after having my three children decided I wanted to change my life and pursue a career in law. It wasn’t the easiest or most conventional route, but I got there!

And the good news for anyone considering law today is that the route into the profession has changed. Becoming a solicitor no longer necessarily means following the traditional path of University, LPC and a two year training contract. The SQE route now allows aspiring solicitors to build their Qualifying Work Experience in different ways and across different organisations making the profession more accessible to people whose journey might not fit the traditional mould.

So if your results weren’t what you wanted, please do not convince yourself that one set of grades has decided what you are capable of achieving.

With persistence, hard work, character and a persuasive nature you’d be surprised where you can end up.

My 18 year old self wouldn’t have believed that I would one day qualify as a solicitor never mind open my own law firm.

There is always another route and another way, keep going.
