Myth: “My next of kin can make decisions for me.”
Fact: They can’t - not without a Power of Attorney. Even a spouse or civil partner has no automatic legal right to make decisions about your care or finances.
By setting up a Power of Attorney, you choose who can act for you if you’re unable to. It ensures someone you trust has the legal authority to make decisions that reflect your wishes about your care, welfare, and/or finances.
