Happy National Smile Day! 😄

Today is all about celebrating the small moments of joy that brighten our days and the simple power of a smile. Whether it’s shared with a colleague, a client, a friend, or someone you pass on your morning walk, a smile can lift spirits, spark connection, and remind us that kindness doesn’t have to be complicated.

At our firm, we believe in creating a positive, supportive environment - not just in the work we do, but in how we show up for the people around us. National Smile Day is a lovely reminder that even the smallest gestures can make someone’s day a little lighter.

Here’s to spreading positivity, celebrating the good, and finding reasons to smile - big or small.

Rory and Zoe returned to York St John’s University last week to speak with third year students about their journey into law — a full circle moment for them both as proud YSJ alumni.

Sharing their real experiences, challenges, and career milestones offered students an honest look at what building a career in the legal profession can look like. It was an opportunity to show that there’s no single path into law — and that determination, curiosity, and community can shape the journey just as much as academics.

At SJP, it’s great to stay connected with the university where many of our team began their journey. Several of our strongest colleagues studied at YSJ, and maintaining that positive relationship means a lot to us — not as a formal partnership, but as an ongoing connection rooted in shared beginnings.

Rory and Zoe’s visit reflects our commitment to supporting future legal professionals and giving back to the communities that helped shape us. Inspiring the next generation is something we’re always proud to be part of.

This week reminded us how much small actions matter.

One thing we're taking forward is giving ourselves more space to pause before we push through. It’s a simple shift, but it’s helped us feel more present and less overwhelmed.

Looking back over the week, it’s clear that small, consistent choices can make a real difference to how we feel - whether that’s taking a moment of fresh air, setting a boundary, or checking in with ourselves with honesty.

We would love to know what you’re taking forward too. What’s one small action from this week that you want to keep with you?

Looking after your wellbeing doesn’t always mean making big changes - sometimes it’s about noticing the small things that help you feel grounded. Over time, we've realised that giving ourselves permission to slow down, set boundaries and rest when we need to isn’t selfish; it’s essential.

We used to think we had to push through everything, but learning to check in with ourselves has made a real difference. Paying attention to what actually supports our wellbeing - rather than what we think should - has helped us feel more balanced and more human.

If this resonates, you’re not alone. Personal reflection is a powerful step toward understanding what you need and giving yourself the space to honour it.

Let’s clear up a few things about mental health…

So many myths still get in the way of people feeling able to ask for help or talk openly about how they’re doing. Today is all about replacing those misconceptions with facts, compassion and understanding.

Mental health isn’t a sign of weakness. It isn’t something you can “snap out of”. And it doesn’t only affect certain types of people - it’s part of being human. When we challenge these myths, we make it easier for everyone to feel seen, supported and understood.

Small actions, honest conversations and accurate information all help create a kinder, more informed culture around mental health.

During mental health awareness week, we are taking action. Sometimes the smallest actions make the biggest difference. Today is all about choosing one simple step that supports your wellbeing - nothing big, nothing pressured, just something that feels doable for you.
It could be taking ten minutes of fresh air, enjoying a screen free hour, writing down your thoughts, or reaching out to someone you trust.

One small action, taken today, is enough.

Over the last two days we have hosted a coffee and cake wellness break for our staff to take some time away from their desks, have a catch-up and a well-deserved break from their hard work. We are grateful to everyone who attended, and we hope everyone else takes a small break for their mental health too.

During Mental Health Awareness Week, today's message is 'How to look after yourself'.

One thing that always helps to reset is taking a quiet moment to slow down and check in with yourself. Whether it’s a short walk, a warm drink, or simply pausing to breathe, giving yourself that space makes everything feel a little more manageable.

What is one small step you take to care for your mind and body?

Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that wellbeing isn’t a one‑week project - it’s something we build through small, everyday habits. Today's theme, Everyday Wellbeing, encourages us to focus on simple actions that help us feel grounded and supported in daily life.

Here are a few habits that can make a real difference:

Taking a walk - a few minutes outside helps reset the mind
Taking breaks - stepping away gives us space to breathe and refocus
Staying connected - checking in with people you trust keeps you anchored
Setting boundaries - protecting your time and energy supports long‑term wellbeing
Creating moments of stillness - even a minute of quiet can make the day feel lighter

Small habits. Consistent care. Real impact.

What’s one everyday habit that helps you feel grounded?
