Legal Secretary – Private Client Department
We are seeking an organised and proactive Legal Secretary to join our busy Private Client Department. The role will involve providing administrative and secretarial support to fee earners dealing with wills, probate, LPAs, Court of Protection applications and estate administration matters.
Key Responsibilities
• Audio and copy typing of legal documents and correspondence
• Managing diaries, appointments, and client meetings
• Opening and maintaining client files in accordance with compliance procedures
• Liaising with clients, courts, financial institutions, and third parties
• Handling telephone enquiries and general administrative duties
• Assisting fee earners with day-to-day case management
Requirements
• Previous legal secretarial experience, ideally within Private Client
• Strong typing and IT skills, including Microsoft Office
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Professional and empathetic manner with clients
• Ability to manage workload efficiently and work as part of a team
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Experience with case management systems and digital dictation would be advantageous.
Salary dependent on experience.

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Lianne from Carers Information Support Service (CISS) in Hull, who came to tell us more about the support available to unpaid carers and how we can become Carer Champions.

We learnt about the comprehensive Carer Assessment offered by CISS, which helps carers understand their entitlements and identify community services available to both them and the person (or people) they care for.

Lianne also explained how we can refer carers to CISS for support, including access to a special discount card for local businesses — and yes, that includes us! 🎉

Today we say a very fond farewell to our much-loved colleague, Jackie Hessey, as she begins her well-earned retirement.

Jackie first joined Burstalls in 1983 and, over the years, has dedicated over four decades of service to the firm. Throughout that time she has been a valued colleague, a loyal friend, and someone who has always led by example with her hard work, honesty and commitment.

Senior Partner David Rosenberg was delighted to present Jackie with her retirement gifts on behalf of everyone at Burstalls, thanking her for her incredible contribution and wishing her every happiness for the future.

Jackie, thank you for everything you have done for Burstalls. You will be greatly missed, but we hope you enjoy every minute of your retirement—whether that's travelling, gardening, spending time with your family and grandchildren, or simply having the opportunity to relax (although we're not convinced you'll ever slow down!).

Yesterday our Laura Frazer attended the Parent and Carers Information Service event in Hull. This was an event focussed on financial planning and support relating to Wills, Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection Deputyship matters, and mental capacity. The Parent and Carers Information Service specifically focus on adults with learning difficulties, physical and sensory conditions, and mental health issues.

Our Partner, Prue Arnott, is delighted to welcome Amy Wells into our expanding Family team. Amy qualified as a solicitor in 2022 and joined Burstalls in June 2026. She specialises in domestic abuse and children matters, primarily acting for parents and other family members who require assistance when dealing with issues arising from separation or Local Authority involvement.
