🌿 Defra has released the results of its latest consultation on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), with proposed changes aimed at reducing regulatory pressure on smaller and rural developments.

Key proposals include:
✅ A new 0.2 hectare exemption threshold
✅ Removal of the self-build/custom-build exemption
✅ Extension of temporary development exemption from 2 to 5 years

If implemented, these changes could significantly reduce the number of rural projects required to deliver BNG - particularly agricultural buildings, access tracks, farmyards, and replacement dwellings.

📅 Changes are expected to come into force before 31 July 2026, but current BNG rules still apply today.
