eVisas, share codes, online Home Office checks and digital verification providers are becoming an increasingly important part of the Right to Rent process.

The updated guidance coming into force from October 2026 reflects the growing use of digital Right to Rent checks and eVisas.

But using digital tools doesn’t remove the landlord’s responsibility to make sure the correct check has been carried out and the required evidence retained.

Right to Rent checks need to follow the prescribed process, whether that’s through a Home Office online check, an appropriate manual document check or an approved digital verification provider.

And from October 2026, updated Right to Rent guidance comes into force in England.
