A Will is designed to reflect your wishes and circumstances, which means it is important to review it regularly to ensure it remains accurate and up to date.

Many people only think about updating their Will after a major event, but regular reviews can help provide reassurance that your plans still reflect what matters most to you.

You should consider reviewing your Will if you experience changes such as:

✔ Getting married or entering a civil partnership
✔ Separation or divorce
✔ The birth of children or grandchildren
✔ Buying or selling property
✔ Changes to your financial circumstances
✔ Changes in your chosen beneficiaries or executors

Even if nothing significant has changed, taking time to review your Will can help ensure it continues to reflect your current wishes.

At Campion Solicitors, we provide clear and practical advice to help you put the right plans in place for the future and ensure your loved ones are protected.

Writing a Will is an important step in protecting your wishes and providing clarity for those closest to you. However, there are some common mistakes that can create complications in the future.

Some of the issues we often see include:

✔ Not updating your Will after major life changes
Marriage, divorce, family changes or changes to your finances can all affect whether your Will still reflects your wishes.

✔ Not being clear about your wishes
A well-drafted Will should clearly set out how you would like your estate to be handled.

✔ Forgetting about important assets or beneficiaries
It is important to consider your full circumstances and ensure your Will covers everything you intend it to.

✔ Choosing unsuitable executors
Your executors will have important responsibilities, so selecting someone you trust is essential.

✔ Relying on DIY Will templates without advice
While it may seem straightforward, mistakes in wording or ex*****on can cause problems later.

A professionally prepared Will can provide reassurance that your wishes are clearly recorded and help reduce uncertainty for your loved ones.

Our experienced team can guide you through the process with clear, practical advice tailored to your circumstances.

Summer often brings a natural opportunity to slow down, spend time with family and think about the future, making it the perfect time to review your Will and ensure it still reflects your wishes.

Life changes can happen at any time, and events such as moving home, changes in family circumstances, welcoming new members to the family, retirement or changes to your finances may all mean your Will needs updating.

Regularly reviewing your Will can help provide reassurance that your loved ones will be looked after and that your wishes will be followed.

If you already have a Will in place, it is worth asking:
✔ Does it reflect my current circumstances?
✔ Are my chosen beneficiaries still correct?
✔ Have my personal or financial arrangements changed?

Our experienced team can provide clear, professional advice to help you review your plans and make any necessary updates with confidence.

Many people assume that their estate will automatically go to their loved ones if they pass away without making a Will.

However, this is not always the case.

When someone dies without a valid Will, their estate is dealt with under the rules of intestacy. These rules determine who can inherit and how the estate is divided, which may not always reflect the person’s wishes.

Without a Will in place, there can be additional uncertainty for families during an already difficult time. It can also create complications around:

Who is responsible for managing the estate

How assets are distributed

Ensuring loved ones are provided for

Making a Will allows you to have greater control over what happens to your belongings, property and finances, while providing clarity and reassurance for those you leave behind.

Our experienced team can provide clear, professional advice to help you understand your options and put the right plans in place for the future.
