A new era has begun at Longmores this April.

Stepping into the Managing Partner role is Richard Horwood who will be leading the firm alongside Richard Gvero, Senior Partner, following the retirement of Chris Pease last month.

As a member of the firm’s management committee for the past eight years, Richard Horwood is already immersed into the running of the firm. Together, “the Richards” as they have already been dubbed, will lead the firm with plans to focus on sustainable growth, workplace culture and operational excellence.

Long service is typical within Longmores and career development has enabled a batch of successional changes to come from within the firm meaning we are celebrating other successful promotions.

Tracey Dargan joins the firm’s management committee.

Alastair Liddiard now leads our Private Client team.

Rachael Spalton now heads up both the wider property team as well as her Commercial Property team.

Karen Fletcher took over the running of Residential Property last year.

Rebecca Bushell was promoted into the role of Practice Manager at the end of last year.

Congratulations to all. If Longmores sounds like a team you want to join, keep an eye on the vacancies on our website.

Today, Longmores is celebrating a very special milestone in the career of Chris Pease — his retirement after 40 years as a solicitor, including the last nine years leading the firm as our Joint Senior Partner.

In true Longmores style, we’re marking the occasion with a celebration at The Salisbury Arms Hotel - Hertford. The generous spread and jolly atmosphere are a fitting reflection of the culture Chris has helped to nurture over many years. Behind his friendly and approachable style, Chris leaves a lasting legacy: encouraging us to embrace change, empower every member of the firm, and remain dedicated to quality in everything we do.

Chris says it best in his own parting words to us:
“After nearly 30 years I still count it as a stroke of massive good fortune to have arrived at Longmores and spent the rest of my career here. I believe that progressive, independently‑minded law firms dedicated to quality processes, great client experience and motivated, empowered teams can achieve so much — and together, I believe we have proved this. Longmores is in good hands. We have a strong, experienced and committed team who have Longmores in their veins and who I am sure will do a wonderful job.”

Thank you, Chris, for everything you have given to Longmores and to each of us. We will miss your support, your kindness but mostly your light-hearted humour. We wish you a very happy and well‑deserved retirement, full of culture and new adventures.

We’re pleased to be supporting Hertford Museum’s fundraiser in aid of their children’s activity programmes. It’s a great initiative, and we wish all the “inmates” the best of luck in raising their bail and helping to support the museum’s fantastic work.

A massive shoutout and thank you to Longmores Solicitors our event sponsor for our fundraising event - Jailbreak from Hertford Castle!

There's a couple of places left in the cells, so there's still time to register to join the fun, get “locked up” in the Castle, and raise your bail money to help support Hertford Museum. It’s all for a brilliant local cause and a day you won’t forget! 💛

Join us on Wednesday 30th April 2025 at Hall in Ware from 8:45 - 11:00 for the HR Forum: Sexual Harassment in the Workplace event, sponsored by Longmores Solicitors.

Sexual harassment in the workplace can take many forms and can range from inappropriate behaviour and unwanted attention to a workplace flirtation gone wrong. It can be very distressing for those being harassed.
As an employer, it is important that you know your responsibilities and liabilities under the current law.

As of October 2024, employers now have a positive legal duty to take reasonable steps to protect their employees from sexual harassment. Employers’ legal obligations are likely to increase under the forthcoming Employment Rights Bill.

During the seminar, Richard Gvero and Miranda Mulligan from Longmores Solicitors Employment team will explain what has changed and what action you need to take within your businesses. Their presentation will cover:

✅ The nature and extent of the duty for employers to take reasonable steps to protect their employees from sexual harassment.
✅ How and where it applies.
✅ What employers need to do to meet their legal obligations.
✅ Likely future changes to the law.

A Q&A session will follow the presentation when delegates can ask their questions.

This event will be useful for HR directors, managers and business owners who are responsible for employing staff.
