Are you divorced, or considering applying for a divorce?
Following a recent change in the Law, it is no longer necessary to prove grounds for a divorce. The application can be made online, provided the parties have been married for at least one year, and parties can make a joint application.
For the application, you will need to provide your marriage certificate and pay a fee. It takes a minimum of six months, but it is often longer. There is no "quickie" divorce.
When a final order is made by the Court, the marriage is over; however, the application only deals with the dissolution of the marriage, and not the finances or child arrangements.
It is best to seek legal advice to ensure all matters relating to the marriage are dealt with and resolved, to avoid complications or issues which may arise in the future.
A divorce also affects the provisions of your Will, and it may be necessary to make a new Will.
