Interview with Steve Oxley:
I: Everyone wants to know who Steven Oxley is!
Are you an entrepreneur, managing director, retired lawyer, assistant pastor, mediator, or someone else? Who are you?
Steve: All of those and I hope more. Thank you for asking. During my long career I have sold advertising space for Rupert Murdoch, had a chance to work as a Legal Director Europe-Africa -Middle East for a big firm, travelled around the World with my chosen sport, spent 7 years in Italy, Lots of amazing experiences therefore I am ever so grateful to God for the challenges and opportunities of my life. Though I "retired" some years ago, I never stop working, and I now offer my experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution. I support people who have conflict with their employers, business partners or anyone who faces family issues.
I: What are the typical types of support you offer?
Steve: Every case is different. People may be puzzled to fill in forms, to interpret legal jargon, so one of my companies Financial and Legal is specialised in supporting people off-line in an on-line world. People might find it difficult to submit tax self-assessment forms, we’re there to help them. My other company Oxleymediation offers support in conflict-resolution, mediation and business coaching.
Amazing to see when the mission impossible is made possible! The parties can find a compromise solution, this is great. But the most important argument for mediation is, that once the parties signed the agreement, this document has a legal relevance! The agreement is legally enforceable.
I: You should be doing well with people! Listening and understanding the agenda of the different parties might be very complex!
Steve: Indeed, most of my cases have a certain complexity. As a Mediator I am involved in the estranged interests of the different parties, undocumented deliveries and payments, non-agreed perceptions, beliefs and expectations.
This is the lovely side of this job; exploring the deep and real interests below the surface. This needs human experience and strong understanding of people’s motivations.
I: You obviously have strong people-skills: empathy and caring attitude! Do you think so?
Steve: It is the beauty of growing old enough, to learn and understand people! I am very grateful to be appointed an assistant pastor of Kingsway Church, this role is the most amazing appreciation of my support within my communities!
I: If I would ask you to define yourself in one word, how would you describe your role? Who is Steve?
Steve: Shortly, in one word I would call myself Steve the peace-broker! I think this word tells you all you need to know about me!
I: Fair enough! Steve the peace-broker. I will call you during hard times in my business or work.
