🚨 10-YEAR ILR UPDATE β€” IF YOU’RE ALREADY IN THE UK, PAY ATTENTION

There is still a LOT of confusion about the proposed 10-year settlement changes.

Here’s what we actually know πŸ‘‡

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ The Government has proposed increasing the standard settlement period for many migrants from 5 years to 10 years under its proposed β€œearned settlement” model.

⚠️ BUT β€” this is NOT the current ILR rule.

The Government is still analysing more than 200,000 consultation responses and developing the final model.

And this is where it gets really important:

πŸ“Œ Transitional arrangements have not yet been finalised.

The Home Secretary has said that immigration applications are assessed under the rules in force when the application is made, rather than simply the rules that were in place when someone first arrived.

The Government has also said that, under the proposed model, lawful time already spent in the UK on a qualifying route would count towards the qualifying period once the final model is introduced.

So if your ILR is due in 2026, 2027, 2028 or later, don't assume you already know whether the proposed changes will affect you.

The final rules and transitional arrangements matter.

🚨 NEW UK IMMIGRATION CHANGES β€” 8 OCTOBER 2026

Two changes you REALLY need to know if you're making an immigration application:

1️⃣ FEE WAIVER
If your fee waiver is successful, the date of your fee-waiver request can count as your application date β€” but there are conditions, including the same route and the 10 working day deadline.

2️⃣ BIOMETRICS
Varying your application does not automatically give you a new biometrics deadline.

⚠️ These are technical rules, but getting the timing wrong could have serious consequences for your application.

🚨 BRITISH CITIZENSHIP + THE NEW B2 ENGLISH RULE β€” HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

You may have heard that English requirements are changing to B2 from 26 March 2027.

But this is where it gets confusing πŸ‘‡

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ The B2 change is being introduced for settlement/ILR on affected routes.

If you already obtained ILR using B1, you can generally rely on that English qualification when you later apply for British citizenship β€” even if your citizenship application is after March 2027.

⚠️ But if you still need to obtain ILR after 26 March 2027 and your route is affected by the B2 change, you'll need to meet the new B2 settlement requirement.

So don't automatically book another English test for citizenship without checking your situation first.

πŸ“Œ SAVE this for your citizenship journey

πŸ“€ Send this to someone applying for British citizenship.

πŸ‘‡ COMMENT β€œCITIZENSHIP” if you're planning to apply for British citizenship after getting ILR.

🚨 10-YEAR ILR UPDATE β€” THIS COULD AFFECT PEOPLE ALREADY IN THE UK

There has been a LOT of confusion about when the proposed new settlement rules will actually apply.

Here’s what we know right now πŸ‘‡

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ The Government has proposed increasing the standard settlement period for many migrants from 5 years to 10 years under its β€œearned settlement” model.

⚠️ BUT β€” the final rules have NOT been published yet.

The Government is currently analysing more than 200,000 consultation responses, and the final model still has to be decided.

One important point from the Government’s latest response:

➑️ Time already spent lawfully in the UK on a qualifying route is proposed to count towards the qualifying period once the new model is introduced.

And the Home Secretary has previously confirmed that immigration applications are generally assessed under the rules in force when the application is made, rather than simply the rules that existed when someone first arrived.

So if your ILR is due in 2026, 2027, 2028 or later, don't assume you already know what will happen.

The transitional arrangements could be extremely important.

🚨 ILR ENGLISH TEST IS CHANGING β€” ARE YOU READY?

If you're planning to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), this is a date you need to know:

πŸ“… 26 MARCH 2027

For affected settlement routes, the English requirement is changing from:

B1 ➑️ B2

And B2 is a higher level of English.

⚠️ This could affect people who are already in the UK and working towards ILR.

So if your 5-year ILR date is coming up, don't wait until the last minute to check which English requirement will apply to YOU.

🚨 SKILLED WORKER VISA RENEWAL? SAVE THIS.

Your Skilled Worker visa extension could cost Β£4,048 in government fees for a standard 3-year application β€” and that's before any optional services or other costs.

πŸ’· Application fee: Β£943
πŸ₯ IHS: Β£1,035 per year
πŸ“‹ 3-year IHS: Β£3,105

But here's what many Skilled Workers don't realise πŸ‘€

Some sponsorship costs are the employer's responsibility, including the Certificate of Sponsorship fee and applicable Immigration Skills Charge.

So before you pay your employer anything, check exactly what you're being asked to pay for.

πŸ’Ύ Save this for your next renewal

🚨 DID YOU KNOW ILR CAN ACTUALLY LAPSE?

Getting Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) doesn't mean you can leave the UK indefinitely without consequences.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Ordinary ILR: generally lapses after more than 2 continuous years outside the UK.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί EUSS settled status: generally 5 continuous years outside the UK.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡ Swiss citizens & their family members with EUSS settled status: generally 4 continuous years.

And that's not the only way settlement can be lost.

If you've got ILR or settled status, or you're planning to get it, you need to know the rules that apply to YOUR status.

πŸ’Ύ SAVE this! You may need it later.

πŸ“€ SEND this to someone who has ILR or settled status.

πŸ‘‡ Did you already know about the 2-year rule?

🚨 ILR isn't just about reaching 5 years.

Your visa route, eligibility requirements, and timing all matter.

One mistake could delay your settlement and cost you another Home Office application fee.

🚨 New UK immigration rules came into force on 3rd August 2026.

But contrary to what many people think, these are not the proposed 10-year ILR changes.

The latest amendments affect specific routes, including some family applications, children's settlement provisions, the Graduate route and ETA rules.
