Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA): what you need to know

There are two types of LPA:

Health & Welfare LPA
Covers decisions about medical treatment, care, daily routine, where you live and life-sustaining treatment.
👉 Only comes into effect if you lose mental capacity.

Property & Financial Affairs LPA
Covers managing bank accounts, paying bills, pensions, property and investments.
👉 Can be used while you still have capacity, if you choose.

Without one:
• Loved ones can’t automatically act for you
• Banks, doctors and care providers may refuse access
• Families may face costly delays through the Court of Protection
