This week ends with another client aquitted of the serious and life changing allegations they faced.

Our client was facing domestic abuse charges, which he vehemently denied. The allegations had been hanging over our client for nearly 2 years.

Our client works in regulated employment and a conviction would have destroyed his career and his personal life.

Our client considered that the allegations were mallicious and were fabricated by his former partner, because he had started a relationship with another partner.

We were able to show that our client's former partner had deliberately and repeatedly failed to attend court without good reason. Justice delayed is justice denied and we successfully persuaded the court to dismiss all of the charges at court today.

Our client fully accepted he was over the limit, but denied driving or being in charge of his car. A conviction would have wrecked his business and his personal life.

🚨If police officers detain me or stop me on the street and accuse me of breaking a law, do I have to answer their questions?🚨

The answer is NO! - but you must tell them your name, your address, your date and your place of birth and nationality. Nothing else.

This is called your right to silence. It means that you can, quite properly and legitimately, refuse to answer police questions and there is absolutely nothing they can do about it.

So... whatever you do, do not allow yourself to be interviewed or questioned by the police without being represented by a lawyer. You will be anxious and you will be stressed. You may not fully understand the reasons why the police want to question you and you may not be aware of the many, many pitfalls of answering police questions.

Remain silent - do not answer police questions (except your name, address, date and place of birth and nationality) and either call us or ask for us to be informed immediately if you are arrested. Be in no doubt that we will be there to robustly defend you.

These are your rights. Use them. We always attend police stations to represent our clients detained in custody.

(Please note that in certain road traffic investigations it is a statutory requirement for a registered keeper of a vehicle to provide information about the identity of its driver - but we will cover this in a separate post)
