This week, solicitors from our Firm have had the privilege of attending three events connected with the UK Supreme Court’s visit to Scotland.
The events provided valuable reflections from different Justices on a range of topics relevant to family law and litigation practice, offering fascinating insight into the evolving legal landscape and the work of the Supreme Court.
On Tuesday, members of the team attended The Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow discussion, “A View from the Thames,” in which Lord Doherty, Justice of the UK Supreme Court, reflected on his early experiences with the UK Supreme Court.
Last night, our Family Law team members, April Campbell, Gabrielle Reilly, and Laura Cousins, also attended a comparative law discussion exploring the concept of matrimonial property and how the English and Scottish legal systems approach family law disputes. Our Litigation Team member, David Phinn, attended a discussion led by The Right Hon The Lord Reed of Allermuir, President of the Supreme Court, who set out the work of the Court, shared his thoughts on the rule of law, and offered insights for lawyers starting their careers.
A fantastic opportunity to engage in important legal discussions, hear directly from senior members of the judiciary, and reflect on developments shaping the future of legal practice across Scotland and the wider UK legal system.
