✨ We’ve got some lovely news to share! ✨

Pax Mediation has been nominated in TWO categories at the National Mediation Awards 2026:

🏆 Mediation Provider of the Year
🏆 Legal Aid Provider of the Year

We’re incredibly pleased to receive both nominations.

Every day, our team works with families navigating separation
and change, while continuing our commitment to making family mediation accessible through Legal Aid and supporting high standards within the profession.

These nominations belong to the whole Team Pax – our mediators and our brilliant admin team who keep everything running behind the scenes. 💙

The shortlist is announced on 21 October, and of course we’d be thrilled to make it through – but for now, we’re very happy to celebrate being nominated in two national categories.

Well done, Team Pax! 🥂✨

📺 Did you watch BBC Panorama: Child Maintenance – Parents Under Pressure?

The programme highlighted just how difficult and emotive child maintenance can become after separation — for parents on both sides.

As family mediators, we regularly meet parents with very different experiences of the same situation. One parent may feel they are carrying most of the financial responsibility. The other may feel their circumstances or wider contribution aren't understood.

Sometimes, both parents genuinely believe the current arrangement is unfair.

Family mediation isn't about deciding who's right or telling parents what they should pay. It provides an impartial space to discuss child maintenance, children's expenses and the wider financial arrangements for your family.

We've taken a look at the issues raised by Panorama and how mediation may be able to help.

📅 How should separated parents divide the school holidays?

Summer holidays, half-terms, Christmas, Easter… when you’re separated, working out who the children spend their school holidays with can sometimes feel anything but straightforward.

Should you split the holidays 50/50?
What about Christmas Day?
How far in advance should you make plans?
And what happens when you just can’t agree?

There’s no single arrangement that works for every family.

Our latest blog looks at some of the different ways separated parents can approach school holiday arrangements – and how family mediation can help when conversations become difficult.

Holiday plans can become a real source of stress for separated parents when one parent wants to take their child away and the other doesn’t agree.

There might be concerns about the destination, travel arrangements, time away, keeping in touch, or simply a breakdown in communication between parents.

✈️ Can my ex refuse to sign my child’s passport?

Passports and holidays abroad can become a real sticking point for separated parents — particularly when one parent won’t cooperate or has concerns about a proposed trip.

Do both parents need to sign a child’s passport?
What happens if your ex won’t cooperate?
Do you need permission to take your child abroad?

🌴 What happens if your child says they don't want to go on holiday with their other parent?

It can be one of the most difficult situations separated parents face.

You may feel worried, upset or unsure what to do next. The other parent may be feeling hurt or confused. Most importantly, your child may be trying to express feelings that deserve to be heard.
Every family is different, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.

At Pax Mediation, we provide a safe, impartial space where parents can explore what's happening, improve communication and keep the focus on their child's needs. In some cases, Child Inclusive Mediation may also be appropriate, giving children the opportunity to share their views in a safe and age-appropriate way.

Our latest blog explores this sensitive topic and how family mediation can help families move forward constructively.
