✨Did you know…..

………that marriage revokes a will? ✨

If this happens, the law would then decide what happens to your estate, as you would die ‘intestate’.

To avoid this, you could make a will ‘in contemplation’ of marriage, or remake your will after you’re married.

Divorce doesn’t revoke a will, but the divorced spouse would effectively be removed from your will as a beneficiary, executor and trustee. If you’ve left everything to them, again you would die intestate.

Have you considered making a Lasting Power of Attorney?

Perhaps your Will is sorted, but what happens if you’re suddenly unable to make your own decisions about your health or finances, maybe due to an accident or ill health?

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to appoint people in advance to make these decisions for you, in the event that you’re unable to.

✨ Did you know? ✨

Many clients that I meet don’t know that you can include replacements within your Will or Lasting Power of Attorney.

This can result in delays whilst decisions are made, so when deciding on your beneficiaries and executors/trustees for your Will, or attorneys for your LPoA, always consider replacements as well. 🙂

Lasting Power of Attorney....

This legal document lets you appoint one or more people known as attorneys to help you make decisions, or make them on your behalf if appropriate.

It means you have more control over what happens if you find yourself unable to make your own decisions due to accident or illness, etc.

Happy New Year!

As we’re back in lockdown measures, I’m now taking appointments for virtual meetings during January.

If video call (zoom, Skype, etc) isn’t possible then I can also make phone appointments if required.
