It seems that young people are turning to influencers on social media for financial advice, but they should take care before parting with their money and being led astray.

There are many risks in relying on unqualified and unregulated financial advice on social media for your investments, including not understanding the difference between U.S markets vs UK markets and knowing if what is being posted is accurate or inaccurate information.

The power of influencers on younger audiences has been gaining momentum as more youngsters turn towards platforms such as TikTok for education-based content about finance, whilst this trend could be seen positively because at least these kids engage financially, it must be met with a huge amount of caution. We would always recommend seeking independent financial advice before parting with your money on any investments suggested on social media.

What to expect from your first meeting with a Financial Advisor:

During our first meeting we will take full details of your personal and financial circumstances and establish realistic investment objectives. On confirmation of your instructions, we will research the available options from the whole market prior to providing a comprehensive report tailored to your individual needs. Our report will present a series of recommendations and the reasons behind each of them.

At this stage, you are under no obligation to take up these proposals. Any fees incurred will simply be for the research, based on the time spent to date. Deciding to take up our recommendations is the next step. We will provide you with the appropriate paperwork and ensure that the plans are properly implemented for you.

If you’d like to take to first step in instructing a financial advisor you can contact us on 01392 346464 or email [email protected]

Why is independent financial advice important?
Few of us have the time or inclination to scrutinise our finances in detail, but it is important that we do so.

One of the biggest investments most individuals make is their home and a mortgage is used to finance this. A financial planner can help you understand how much you should borrow, what repayments will be and when you might pay it off. A financial planner can also advise on any number of important matters such as pensions, investments and insurance policies.

The benefits of independent financial advice are obvious - you have a strong advocate who will look out for your interests, free from the vested interests of estate agents, mortgage brokers and other third parties. You will receive impartial advice with no hidden agenda.

Unlike many financial advisers, at Gilbert Stephens Financial Services we are not tied to any one or more insurance or investment companies. This means our advice is completely unbiased and covers all of the available options across the whole of the market.

You can contact our team on 01392 346464 or email [email protected]

What is Financial Planning?
Financial planning is the process of working out how you will generate income in the future and then finding ways to invest that money.

The main goal of financial planning is to help people get the most out of their money and assets during their lifetime, which can be long or short depending on your circumstances.

At Gilbert Stephens Financial Services our Independent Financial Advisers will assist you in identifying your short, medium and long term goals. They will review and evaluate your current overall financial position, which may include assets and liabilities, and look at your income and expenditure. Throughout this process we will work together to develop a strategy which will create a “route map” for achieving each goal.

Once agreed, the plan will be implemented and then monitored on an ongoing basis, at least yearly, to ensure adjustments are made as and when required.
