Applications for MFMac’s 2028 traineeships are now open. Apply by 17 July.

See what our trainees have to say:

"MFMac take great pride in creating a supportive environment for trainees. Trainees are encouraged to learn from and support one another throughout the traineeship and beyond. Second year trainees are a particularly valuable support resource to first years, offering guidance and sharing their experience. Ahead of day one, second year trainees also host a welcome reception, giving new trainees the chance to meet colleagues and settle in early."

– Daniel Cotton, Trainee Solicitor at MFMac

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the first year of my traineeship at MFMac. Gaining experience across a range of seats has provided valuable insight into different areas of law, while allowing me to develop key practical skills on a variety of matters. MFMac also offers a wide range of firm initiatives, which have been an excellent way to get to know colleagues across the firm and engage with its culture. The strong support from colleagues has made the transition from study to practice far more seamless, and I would encourage anyone considering a traineeship to apply."

– Catriona Dee, Trainee Solicitor at MFMac

Today, on Social Mobility Day, we are reflecting on how access to opportunity is shaped and the role organisations can play in improving it.

At MFMac, we are committed to creating opportunities that recognise potential, not just experience. Through the stories of our people, we see how opening doors can change the direction of a career.

Kenechukwu Chukwukelue, Legal Administrator:

“At MFMac, I was given the opportunity to gain experience I did not have. As someone from a diverse background, that meant a great deal and showed that ability and potential can be recognised even without a traditional path.”

Ellie McLauchlan, Trainee:

“After being introduced to MFMac by Prime, I gained invaluable contacts within the legal sector and went on to secure a traineeship with the firm. It has been a real privilege to start and complete my journey with the firm that helped me believe it was possible.”

Jenny Dickson, Partner and Chair:

“Through our PRIME placement scheme, we work alongside clients to introduce students to the legal profession and show the opportunities available. It shows what can be achieved when we work together to open doors.”

A great start to the day at our Construction Breakfast Seminar in our Glasgow office this morning.

We were pleased to welcome professionals from across the construction sector to explore practical approaches to managing delays in construction contracts. The session sparked valuable discussion and shared insight on a topic that continues to shape project delivery across the industry.

Our thanks to Luis Moreira and Emma Honeysett of SOCOTEC, alongside Erica Dickson and David Wilson from the MFMac team, for sharing their expertise.

It was a strong example of collaboration across the sector, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to attend.

The View is MFMac’s biannual pulse check of the Scottish business landscape, providing independent, data-driven insight into the pressures shaping decision-making across
Scotland’s business community.

In this third edition, findings point to a business community bracing another year of economic pressure.

Results find that 25% of respondents say their most recent financial year went worse than expected, up from 16% a year ago. Almost half, 47%, now identify a weak economy as the most important challenge facing their business, compared to 36% this time last year.
