Our annual Donald Dewar Memorial Debate Tournament final is getting closer 👀. Adding to the line-up of our finalists are S6 pupils, Jamie Tortolano and Isabel Whitworth from Bearsden Academy.

In talking to their debate coaches, Niamh Reilly and Kirsty McCulloch, about how the tournament has helped them, Isabel said “the tournament has taught me to trust myself in more stressful situations” with Jamie adding that it has helped him structure arguments in a logical way whilst building his self-confidence.

Our finalists will soon be putting those skills into practice as we hold the debate final at Edinburgh Napier’s Craiglockhart Campus on 17 June.

📣 Join us to reshape and modernise legal regulation in Scotland.

We are looking for up to five solicitor members and two lay members to join our Regulatory Committee. As a committee member you’ll play a key role in driving improvements to the way Scottish solicitors are regulated, from modernising complaints handling to overseeing the creation of a brand-new regulatory system for legal businesses under the new Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Act.

As the regulator of more than 14,000 Scottish solicitors, we work to make sure standards in the profession are high, ensuring members of the public get a quality service, and that the hard-earned reputation of our members is maintained.

It’s an exciting time to be joining us so if you’re looking for a new challenge, why not bring your experience and perspective to our work and help strengthen Scotland’s legal sector for the future.
